RE: Tunnel runners 'nutters' says MP

"I want to see them banned."
Banned from what Jim? Driving through tunnels? Having loud exhausts? Speeding? If you're going to reach for the Daily Mail "ban this filth" style headlines, at least have the decency to tell us what you want banned. Or resign because you're a pig ignorant egotist with no concept of the real world but have an ability to produce soundbites with the word "ban" in them, constantly bait the muslim community (which seems to be his favourite hobby) or abusing your expenses to fund your own private coffee mornings (no, Jim, we haven't forgotten that you're a thief that got away with it).

My understanding of what an MP is meant to do, is to do what the people tell them to do, but all MP's seem to do, is tell us what we should do (I should write greetings cards...).
The worst thing about the article is that if you have ever been to Poplar or Limehouse (or essentially anywhere in East London) then there are things that are so much more important for their MP to be dealing with. This is an area where gun and knife crime happen on a daily basis, social inequality between rich and poor is huge and even the police will tell you that many estates are no go areas. This MP needs to get a grip and dealing with noisy cars should be last on a very long list of things that he needs to sort out.

What a load of tripe.
I work in the Wharf, often very late too, and I've never heard excessive noise from either LH Link or Rotherhithe which ineed are 'enforced' by numerous cameras, as pointed out by previous posters. I see the underground roundabout is featured too, though it's dead past 10pm when the shoppers have gone home and in any case it isn't in close proximity to residential properties.

I suggest he gets invited on a tunnel run so he can meet some of the enthusiasts
preferably in a TVR so he can enjoy it properly
That's actually a good suggestion, if he turns the offer down then he's clearly just a t**t out to win some easy votes. If he goes and he still hates tunnel runs then he just has no petrol in his veins.preferably in a TVR so he can enjoy it properly

Right, time to go for a drive, which tunnel is he talking about, I'm on my way.

You make it popular and "showcase" them and of course they become more popular, busy, frequent.
Next time ph use your common sense and keep your fking mouths shut! When you find something good you dont bloody publicise it ffs unless you can make a stload of money from it and get out before the mugs who paid up get shafted.
The Ring suffers from this.
The "EVO triangle" in Wales now suffers from this.
The Alpine passes now suffer from this.
The A263 now suffers from this.
The story is always the same. Hell, Eurohooners and ph'ers discovering Northern France and convey-esque types tours have almost ruined driving in France, but fortunately its only Northern France they have fked up and they have the naffest driving roads there anyway.

With all the problems we have in modern society how does this even appear on the radar!
There was something similar in the local paper about "boy racers" and "ridiculous sounding cars". Personally I'm more worried about the drunken idiots vandalizing my property after a night out and I'm more disturbed, though not complaining, about the sounds of police sirens.
Whatever happened to the coalitions pledge to "end the war on the motorist?"
It's just easy pickings to make it look like there doing something!

Banned?! Deary me, what a wasted revenue opportunity. Just add sound meters to the cameras and get them to trigger above 90dB; anyone driving through the tunnel with a loud exhaust gets a letter on the doormat two days later with a noise abatement notice (civil penalty + MoT renewal enforcement notice). Result.
Your votes for me at the next election? Nil, but hey you're almost certainly noiseterrorists tourists so not in my constituancy and I'll get lots of looking-busy column inches in the local papers.

At the risk of sounding like a Guardian reader, isn't this one of the (few) cases where a speed camera might actually be a decent idea? I agree with all the other posters that if it was just a few guys with nice cars making nice noises then it would be OK, but if there genuinely are hundreds of little tits in HP'd Corsas going up and down then I can't really see an argument against the scamera.
On the other hand, I did thoroughly enjoy Ronaldo's tunnel crash...
Limehouse link is covered in CCTV and 6 Gatso's, northbound Blackwall SPECS at 30mph, sounthbound no speed cams but plenty of CCTV. Rotherhithe Tunnel SPECS controlled 20mph all the way through. On the other hand, I did thoroughly enjoy Ronaldo's tunnel crash...
How much more do you want??
I was musing over the wisdom of democracy with someone far more intelligent then me, and he made a point that effectively all governement by its very nature seeks to control every activity of its citizens and uses any excuses to achieve it.
Can't remember how it all went but as a motorist I do feel this - so a couple of youths tank slap an old Vectra into a tree, perhaps going too fast or maybe a bit sozzled and next you know we are all controlled by cameras. Doesn't stop the errant youths of course but controls the submissive populace and is a great excuse. Of course in Germany much of this control can't happen due to an issue with a fellow in the '30s though even there it's getting worse.
