With all the problems we have in modern society how does this even appear on the radar!
This.Plus they like to go after the hard working taxpayer, who will abide by the law, save up so he can buy a decent petrolhead motor & enjoy himself.
Trying to tackle the serious underlying problems we have, is too much hard work for politicians & MP's. Easy life to retirement ? Nice Pension etc etc etc Really nice example to set for all of us esp after the scandal of MP's expenses

one of these days one of these muppets will approach the situation logically. Check to see whether any laws are in fact being broken. If they are then their actions should be stopped. Then think how to aloow these people to do it somewhere where they are not going to cause a disturbance. The MOD must have hundreds of disused areas and some might be suitable.
Put a maserati quattroporte with race exhaust down a tunnel at 50 and I challenge anyone not to have a tinge of a smile on their faces. A 1.6 Citroen with a coke can exhaust perhaps not. But why not be positive about it. Afterall there are now hun=dreds of track days, skateboard and BMX parks etc to try to ensure people enjoy themselves without being pillocks.
His reaction is the usual NIMBI, kill the antics of plebs reaction.

It's interesting to see the completely different attitudes in the two threads. Then they came for the nutters.....

Yet another clueless fkwit of an MP who has heard about the Fast and Furious films and assume every modified and sports car owner drives like that at all times. Utter twonk!
^^^ This - utter twunt. I'd be interested to know how many accidents there've been due to tunnel-running (not racing mind, so at least there's something the rag got right) compared with a normal day. Yet another killjoy who wants to get a name for himself in the pressIn the last few years, Ive done a couple of these runs through tunnels, I can honestly say there is bloody nowhere where you can speed! There are scamereas everywhere!, I think the most cars I have ever seen is around 10! and even then due to traffic lights and one way systems, people get a bit lost, so the cars get split up!
I do remember last year going through the Hindhead tunnel (at about 50mph) following some grumpy tt in a mondeo estate, he was waving at me through his rear view mirror, sort of indicating me to slow down?
The speed limit was 70!
Trouble with these statements by politicians is many of the public believe them! The only way you can crush these stupid comments is by lobbying your local MPs or writing to the Mayor of London
If there are groups of cars 'Racing' then with all the cameras around this could easily be picked up by the many, many traffic cameras and fines issued!
Bloody Hate driving in London.

To be fair though, it is a bit weird isn't it? Especially those who come all the way from other parts of the country just to drive through a few short urban tunnels. It's the automotive equivalent of standing on a platform collecting train numbers.
Not just weird but also plain sad. If I happened to be driving through a tunnel in something nice sounding (e.g. my bike rather than the Civic!) then I would certainly be tempted to make some noise, but I wouldn't even think about driving to a tunnel for that specific purpose. If this MP for the Docklands area is moaning now, can you imagine how upset he will be if Mr Ecclestone gets his way holding an F1 meet at the forma Olympic site! That should give the residents something to think about and wile i'm on the subject, what about all the bloody planes that run up the Thames estuary on their approach to Heathrow and Docklands Light airport? they make a hell of a lot more noise throughout the night and day!

"Ban them all!" I can practically see the MP foaming at the mouth as he says it.
But this is the problem; time and again, there are a few that ruin it for the rest. I don't think anyone here is seriously suggesting that every single tunnel run meet sticks to speed limits and the rules of the road, and doesn't involve racing. It's not just tunnel runs, anywhere that hosts a car meet of any kind is susceptible.
I've seen some properly pathetic behaviour outside the Ace Cafe on some nights, whereas the behaviour is pretty much exemplary on the nights organised by Petrolhead Nirvana, so in reality it is down to the people involved. I think we have to accept that some people are knobs, and I think there is an issue about how you weed out the knobs without causing undue problems for the majority who understand where the boundaries are. Not only that, but then the knock-on effect of where the knobs will subsequently go, because they won't just say "Well, dash it chums, that's a spanner in the works isn't it, I guess my street racing days are over".
Any community will always have it's idiots, but you have to deal with the idiots, and not punish the whole community.

This bounces around the media all the time and then gets forgotten about weeks later.
If somebody on their own or as part of a group is silly enough to do a Clarkson style burnout / doughnut in the middle of Parliament Square for 10 minutes then surprise surprise, they may get caught.
Otherwise, there is no issue and no interest in preventing groups of cars driving out together. Even if there was there are no resources to do so. Speed is probably the only issue that most often arises from these things, however runners are not likely to speed in the presence of a marked police car and lasering in tunnels is not practical. Therefore it is left to the pre existing road camera's rendering police effectiveness useless.
With what is happening at the moment in London in terms of the policing model and use of resources, I can guarantee that this is right at the bottom of the priority pile and you will not at any point be seeing any sort of crackdown. It is of no interest to anyone.

You are going to meet some friends, it just so happens you meet by a Tunnel and might take in one or more tunnels on route to a final destination. Its not normally Just a tunnel run
Does anyone actually live nearby ?
I would imagine if they do and they hear that every night it could get a bit annoying, most people don't care one iota whether its teenagers on mopeds making a racket or a Lamborghini Muira driven by Stirling Moss, it is just noise to them, they complain and their cause is taken up by an MP, whether the cars are within the speed limit or not, if in a low gear and being revved it makes a noise. I normally can appreciate the various engines being battered down the bypass near us but on a Sunday morning at 7am I dont care what it is, at 12pm I dont, it is like fireworks, dont want to hear them at 2am like the twunt the other day having a post club display.
All very well calling people NIMBY's but you tend to find everyone has an element of that, we as petrolheads need to consider our actions and the impact on others in society as if we dont, thats when we get legislated against.
