Hi,

What are people's opinions on the VW Up? Just been to have a look at them at the local dealer and they seemed quite nice (for that kind of thing) especially in "black" trim.

The car is going to be used as a second car doing little trips into town and so on.

I'm thinking of leasing one but wondering if anything else is any good for a similar price.

Thanks in advance!

The Vauxhall Adam looks quite good, I think and with the lifetime warranty is nice.
I'm not sure when it'll be available though.

Have a look at the Seat Mii - very cheap lease deals around on these.

I too like the Adam but what a f**king name??? seriously. I'm sure someone else has brought out a 'Zoe' supermini too.

The Zoe is a Renault. It's an Electric car: ZerO Emissions. ZoE.

It's a crap name but at least it makes sense.

If you're considering a personal lease on a car that is used mostly for 'into town' journeys, I would advice against it as every little scratch, knock, dent and ding will have to be rectified when you hand in the car back to the lease company (fair wear and tear is permitted, but check the lease conditions). On your own car you would probably not have these rectified, but with a lease car you risk paying for it at the end of the term.

If it's a PCP I guess you could buy the car then sell privately, maybe even make a profit on a VW which should (theoretically) hold its value better than the Seat Mii or Skoda Citigo.

If it's a PCH you will have to make the repairs but the montly rental should be less than a PCP. You could set aside a little money each month to cover any repair costs.

Rather than leasing, how about buying a 2-3 year old Hyundai i10? £4- 4.5k should get one with a couple of years' manufacturer's warranty left. My wife had the 5 door 1.1 Comfort and it was a great little car. Nippy around town, low running costs, very reliable, and surprisingly practical for a small car. Doesn't have the same image as the VW Up! though.

Maybe the 'Adam' will be the first of it's kind- a good Vauxhall?

Coming soon, the new Ford Eve, with fruity performance supplied by Shelby...
