An old Westfield? Might get a bit damp if left outside though.

Brill, some great suggestions. Kind of pleased to see that most things suggested are along the same line as what I've already considered.

I know we've discussed this in the past, Snotrag (I was Chris71 until recently...) but I'd still recommend a TVR S3.

Okay, you'd need a car cover and a big pot of waxoyl for it to live outside, but that's my first thought whenever anyone says £5k fun car.

Just listen to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_GEbQZA2Y4&fe...

They're relatively cheap and reliable by TVR (or any proper sports car) standards and yet they feel genuinely special. Anything too sensible and it starts to defeat the object of running it as a second car. Prices are rising currently (as people who'd once have bought a TR6 or a big Healey look for a more affordable alternative) but you can still get a very nice one for that sort of money.

So may disagree and a bit ironic considering it's an Alfa, but i'm going to say a 156 GTA. Kept in good condition should keep its value, oh and it's fun!

No point having a depreciation proof car if it costs you thousands in obscure repairs. My 944 barely lost me a penny when signing the V5 at each end, inbetween however...
Can be painful if the bills come in close to each other, but compare it to the cost of running say a GT-86 (seems roughly comparable) for three years. Guessing 2.5 to 4k in depreciation per year? Hope your 944 was cheaper to keep going than that.

I'd be tempted by an Integra DC2 that has had its bodywork done.
DC2 is the correct answer, £5k gets you a really nice example, no rust issues, just make sure you keep on top of rust.
