I take it you've seen Watchdog where the insurers try and wriggle when an unrelated fact leads to failure to pay out... And then suddenly have a change of heart!
No, I just run the claims side of things for a very well known insurer.

I've also heard on Watchdog that all BMWs will be stolen as soon as you park them up, all car dealers are shysters, all computers are full of kiddy porn, all tradesmen will always rip you off for everything always, that my gran will have her life savings stolen and so on.

I tend not to base my whole life on sensationalist and flawed TV made to pander to the lowest common denominator in our population.
I've also made claims and every single one was a battle to get a fair payout...

Are you saying medical insurance always pays out fairly and they never use the statement of fact to try and wriggle?

It's a business designed to make a profit. Every pound not paid out is a pound they don't need to collect to balance the books.

You'll have me crying at this rate biggrin

So we're on medical insurance now?

I thought we were talking about motor insurance, but hey feel free to educate yourself in the link in my post above, it covers each and every line of business.

Nah, insurance in general will do biggrin

I write in about five different computer languages, there's no way I'm being even more geeky by reading that!

Computer programmers are all child molesters, or virgins. Fact.

Plus all computers are designed to subliminally imprint messages into your brain, so that they can activate you to do some assassinations for MI5 and have no knowledge after the fact.

Can't argue with any of that...

OK, so we've established that insurers throw out claims for any little thing, including putting the date of purchase on the 1st of the month you actually bought it even though you might have bought it later in the month.

But no one can provide any proof of this. Still, lets not let a complete lack of any evidence get in the way of a good myth.

Also worth remembering that they can only use the data they collect for the purpose that it was provided it for.
So if, for example, a well known insurance company with initials AF state for your car insruance you MUST return a form about when you home insurnace renewual is required, they are clearly breaking the data protection laws. They are collecting the information for future sales campaignes rather than the insurance policy concerned. When challenged about why MUST this information is required, they decided it wasn't.
Personally I view the statement as fact as clearly part of the agreement etc for the policy and ensure its accurate. better safe than sorry

Didnt expect to open a can of worms! Thanks for the relevant posts, I gave them a call today and amended all details, they agreed that they had put the cars available and cars owned details in the wrong way round.

The cover letter does state that the statement of fact is a record of statement made and information given by me and forms the contract of insurance and that it is my responsibility to amend any details, so glad I have got it done. Know that many on here have eluded to the fact that they are minor details but I dont see why they shouldnt all be correct.

There's no harm having them correct, in fact it is good practice. However, these details would not lead to the apocalyptic meltdown of the universe as suggested by some on here.
