I need to tow a trailer with advertising on it to local lay bys and leave it there for the day with the car and collect at the end of the day.

Ideally I am after 12 month tax and MOT and something that is sort of reliable for the price (thinking around £500 or under !!) Obviously small mileage so engine size or fuel type not a concern.

Any ideas?

At that price you care where the car is, because it could easily cost 25% of the price getting it home. Where abouts are you (the "midlands" is a big place).

Great find and near, pity he is not adding in tax - looks like he will want £200 for that.

I sold my old Passat TDI that had a tow hitch for £420, you wouldn't want that old heap though...

Speaking of stupid towing vehicles, Did you know that you could get a towing point for a spitfire? 75KG maximum...

the problem with cars that have towballs is they are often used for towing and therefore often shagged out - it could actually be cheaper to buy a stter and get one fitted, but I'm not too sure on cost - in some cases the wiring is already there.

Also when buying a car with one fitted check to see that it hasn't been crashed as they transmit all the force to the chassis. which can cause major wallet pain. - also make sure that the 7 pin works, and is clear of corrosion as they are a pain.

I suspect the 75Kg you mention might be nose weight (if anything) rather than a towing limit.

This says 610Kg maximum braked, and 200Kg unbraked as towing limits for the car itself : http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Size.html

Actually not that bad for a car which weighs about 800Kg.

Are you suggesting OP should do this every day? It's what he needs to do, from his first post.
