Hmmmmmm...maybe this photo has swung it for me...
Looks like a Nissan that has run over some black bin liners....the front valance is hideous. The back looks dated too IMO. Rear haunches too bulky....no....DB9 still has it.:J: said:
You don't have to agree, but I am right
A lot of people put a deposit on the car before it was even built, so it was impossible to even make a comparison?

What's that got to do with anything?
All I said was that assuming someone spending £190k on an Aston didn't think of a 458 or something similar as an alternative is misguided.
Sure, a Rolls Royce drop head owner wouldn't have considered any alternatives...but this is completely different.

What a load of utter bks. You didn't buy a car because it has a message when you start it? A message that you don't even see all of it unless you just put the ECU in and don't start the engine
And no it doesn't say it on the newer cars.
Thanks for your input George. And no it doesn't say it on the newer cars.
As a matter of fact, I did buy the 575 because of this. Let me explain why, as you cannot seem to rationalise it.
I wanted a DB9, have wanted one for some time. Finally got the money together and went to drive one.
Started it up and drove about and questioned the start up message with the Sales guy.
It genuinely put me off so much that it put me off the car and I went and looked at other options. I dont know why, it was not rational, however having that message flashing up was to me extremely tacky and it would have spoilt the ownership experience. For me it made me feel like the car was more of fashion accessory with too much input from marketers than the Aston experience I was expecting.
I bought the 575 because I had gone off the DB9 and that was next on my list.
Judging by your responses to others on here, you're clearly a bit of an Aston Fanboy, and whilst thats fine, it doesnt mean everyone else is wrong. Just different opinions. In my opinion, the marketing guys turned the DB9 from a lovely Aston into a bit of a wkers car.
Just my opinion of course

That's the most pathetic reason for not buying a car I have ever heard. As a matter of fact, I did buy the 575 because of this. Let me explain why, as you cannot seem to rationalise it.

And what's funnier is you think Ferraris have a good image?! They stick their badge on just about everything they can
You're correct. well done.
Lets be clear, I didnt buy the car for the image. I bought it for a big front engined V12. I felt the Ferrai was more engaging and more special than the other options available and in silver was quite subdued. Now go and bother someone else that doesn't agree with your point of view.

sounds like a development car. i used to get them when i worked in the industry. they range from 50% complete cars with interiors, parts and even engines from other models hacked up to fit with fiberglass panels to 99% 'production' evaluation cars... if it looks shockingly plastic it probably isObiwonkeyblokey said:

It looks good, but now the 'new' DB9-that's-definitely-not-a-Virage thing is too close. I do think the power figure should really be starting with a 6 though, bearing in mind an SLS with the same power is over £20k cheaper.
But what would you rather own, a Mercedes or an Aston Martin..?And on a side note, when the original Vanquish came out they claimed 0-60 in 4.3 and 200+, but when a magazine (maybe Autocar) ran it they got 0-60 in 5.6, which quite frankly is laughable. Eventually it wound its way up to about 190, so it's not like Aston's only just started being slower than rivals.

Odd then that you didn't buy the Aston because of its image? Yet you didn't buy the Ferrari (with its far worse IMO) image. Lets be clear, I didnt buy the car for the image. Also it's nothing to do with not agreeing with my point of view - it's more I can't get over that someone would be so pathetic that a little message that takes 2 seconds would convince them not to buy a car

The competitors don't look anywhere near as beautiful.
I want one. I need one. I don't care if the Ferrari F12 has over 700BHP.
+1/2. I can't imagine my life would be made happier by adding another 100bhp to a near-600bhp car. I can imagine being happier having a car that I'd look back at after I got out of it. Just... because. If that doesn't impress my mates, meh. I want one. I need one. I don't care if the Ferrari F12 has over 700BHP.
Though I'd probably be even happier with a DB9, or even a Vantage, and a pile of cash...

To be honest mate, it looks like you're slightly barking up the wrong tree. He has said that the ferrari was more engaging and he was put off by the Aston being more about "image" than actual substance. He bought (correctly) the 575, leave the geeza alone and stop getting so annoyed that someone has a different opinion to you
When did I say I was annoyed? I'm not at all I was genuinely confused. It's such a minor thing to be used as a reason not to get a car. And "leave the geeza alone"? Read back I think you might see he's the one who called me a wker. What do you expect from Ferrari drivers though? Class? Hardly else they wouldn't drive a modern Ferrari.

Holy Moley, you're really obsessed with the whole brand image thing aren't you.
I didnt call you a wker directly, I implied that having driven the car the message on the screen made me feel like a bit of a wker, I also referred to it being a bit wky in my initial post.
You're not coming out of this at all well George, lets just leave it there.
Back On Topic: I prefer the design of the original Vanquish, something a bit more manly about it, the new one looks too much like a DB9 for me. And what I eman by that is that it isn't much more of a design evolution from the DB9 or DBS ( before I get misquoted again)

Having been lucky enough to spend time in a bunch of desirable cars, I will say hand on heart, that the car I would buy without a moment's hesitation, is the Aston Martin DBS - and if the new Vanquish even comes CLOSE to being as all-round bk-grabbingly desirable as the DBS, it's not a bad thing.
The sound the DBS makes is gorgeous. It looks stunning. The interior is lickably nice (comparing to Gallardo, Ferrari, Porsche etc) and it has something that NONE of the others have - the X factor that makes other road users NOT hate you.
I've been carved up in 911's and have enough experience of Ferrari to know that you may as well just paint 'cock' on the side, but in the Aston you are let out of side roads, get all the RIGHT kind of attention and for better or for worse, ladies like it.
Everyone has an opinion and that's what makes the world go round. I'm not saying some people are wrong, but I'm DEFINITELY right.
Love it!
