Would've considered an Evoque but in the end I think they're just too expensive. I mean, knocking on £47k for the one you had?

Merc's prices aren't exactly cheap, but my current C looks like a bargain in comparison.
? Mrs Digga priced up a replacement for her BMW 320d M-Sport and it came out more expensive than the base-spec (but comparably-equipped) Evoque she bought, although that was before the last price rise. They are still comparable.

For the haters, I can report that a neighbour has what must be the ultimate in Evoque bad taste; a white Overfinch.

Like the look of the Evoque, but the boot is just too small when compared to other "medium sized SUVs" such as CRV, Freelander and XC60. It's even smaller than the Tiguan's and my mum's old mini had a bigger boot............The Freelander just looks too old now though........

Loved the last 2 CRVs we had so I'm deciding at the moment between the new CRV and XC60 (already got the local dealer to take £9k off the price of a £41k XC60 so likely to go wih that.............

Swift work too. We left him in his usual Sautrday monring, post walk snooze mode and went over to dealers to pick the demo up. I recon he was only awak for about 30 mins before he masterminded that theft.

I think the biggest mistake Land Rover made was using Beckham's wife and all she represents to promote the thing
Inclined to agree. I was certainly less predisposed to like it as a result. In fact it's a wonderful thing to drive and a nice place to ride. Ultimately ruled out for me because I need a bigger boot at this stage in my life (two small kids and accompanying detritus) but I do like the car for what it is.
I disagree. Pistonheads readers is not really their target market. More wealthy mums who like Made in Chelsea and are pretty materialistic - for whom Victoria Beckham may well be a suitable role model. Had they used Ray Mears, there may be a handful more Pistonheaders buying them but a hell of a lot of the aforemantioned mums who have done but wouldn't have. Land Rover know who their target market it and the sales success and waiting lists is proof of this.
Having thought about it, I honestly don't think PH'ers are the target audience for the Evoque. For a start, we don't get Victoria Beckham. I didn't either, until very recently.

Allow me to clarify. A good friend of mine is a fashion buyer for one of the department stores in London. She and her colleagues, as well as her competitors, all attended Beckham's show during London Fashion Week. It was very well received. Remember, these people love to bh and fashion critics are hard to please at the best of times. Victoria's second collection was very well received at New York Fashion Week too. Paris was only positive as well. She then had a photo shoot with Karl Lagerfeld for France's Elle Magazine. Karl Lagerfeld if you don't know is head designer and creative director for the fashion house Chanel. Aged 79, people say he made Chanel what it is today. Now ask yourself, would they have bothered if they still thought of her as Posh Spice? Not a chance.

So I think Victoria Beckham as ambassador (albeit in China mostly) was a very astute decision. She's edgy and only those who are out of touch with certain social circles associate her solely with the Spice Girls, her husband and nothing more. In actual fact she is carving a very notable career for herself as a designer and fashion house.

And the new RR was designed for who then????

Theres a local girl that i know through friends of friends and what not whos "daddy" is very rich and her first car after passing her test was a White brand spanking new TTS. Now she has moved onto an Evoque, i know this because it has the same dumbass reg plate with her birth year and initials.

THAT is why i hate the evoque.
Erhm... you hate the car because of the fact that a girl got it from her dad... What does that say about the car other than you being jealous on said girl?
I've never met her, i just know of her, and the impression i get is shes a spoilt little brat who has everything given to her on a plate. Its just a fashion accessory to her, she doesn't care about speed or reliability or any of the things people in the real world look for in a car.

I work damn hard to afford my cars and my house. And i enjoy them every second i get. Just for the record i have an S2000 and an Integra DC5.

Haha. I was involved with one of the similar competitor vehicles that didn't get the MoD nod. We're still spitting feathers over that !

I'm just coming up to the end of my first year with the Evoque and it has been brilliant. Nothing has gone wrong, it's a great car to drive and it has as much off-road ability as I need. Alongside it in my garage are a 997 Gen 2 turbo, an F355 Berlinetta, an SL55 AMG and an Impreza WRX. The Evoque is, by a mile, my preferred daily driver.

Totally agree with you... I can't stand her myself but credit wear credit is due. There'll be a post no doubt saying her name is being used to promote but she actually designs the stuff bearing her name. Gwyneth Paltrow wore one of her frocks to the Oscars this year and VB was much in demand. Celebs won't wear her stuff if it's not considered worthy.
There is also a lot of presumption that owners are highly aware that VB was hired to promote the Evoque. I very much doubt it's bought because of her. Trendy type might've checked it out knowing she had some involvement in the limited edition one but in the end they still have to like it and and want to part with their cash for it.
I don't get people saying they don't like a car simple because VB promoted it or some rich bloke bought one for his daughter. So what! If he bought her a 458 would that be condemned too???

I would like a Discovery 4, but they're just too expensive and blingy now and don't really seem to be worth it over a FL2. To me at least. The price of nearly new ones at £30K+ is stupid too, when you look at how 'little' a new SV6 8-speed one costs.

They seem to be able to knock out new Discoverys in the US for the same price as here. Except in dollars!

The Evoque is a good car, it handles well and is an engaging machine. I really liked mine for the year I owned it and that was coming from a very practical D4.

While the space is limited, it can work in most instances and I made it work for some time but eventually I decided I wanted a little more again so now I have a MY12 Range Rover Sport HSE.

The RRS is not more luxurious than the likeable Ewok; I'd say they are equal in terms of luxury and toys. I'd give the nod to the Ewok for tarmac adventures where spirited driving is concerned but only just. It is way better than the FL2 and D4 though. As far as space, comfort over rough surfaces and off-road ability are concerned, the current RRS wins and hence why I switched.

Why do you care about her having everything bought for her. You say you've never met her yet you know 'Its just a fashion accessory to her, she doesn't care about speed or reliability or any of the things people in the real world look for in a car.' That's all presumption and why does she have to care about speed. Most of my friends have no interest in speed, grip, handling etc.. How much juice it uses and will it be reliable yes...
Sounds more like it annoys you, jealous that he wealthy dad buys her a car she hassn't work for.
If your dad was wealthy and said Coldfuse my son, this is for you. Hands you the keys to a Lambo/McLaren/Porsche or whatever, you're not going to tear his hand off? Instead you're gonna say no I don't want it? They'll be a few that say they want to earn it... But most would be kissing his arse and be thankful for a dad like that.

What many seem to forget is that just because Tata own JLR, there are hundreds of smaller suppliers who are British and who are doing very well out of the Evoke's success. Whatever your opinion on the car, it's been a great success so far and provided many much needed jobs.

Sensible comments over with. For those haters out there - are you blind? The FL looks like a sack of junk compared to the Evoque - and I would wager, probably only slightly less capable off road. The Evoque just looks different and a far more modern design compared to most SUVs. Boring old trucks like Merc MLs or BMW X5s look staid in comparison. And if modern looks aren't to your taste - buy a Defender. Or a Merc G wagon (or whatever it's called now). JLR deserve credit for bring something different looking to the market.

And personally I'm neutral on VB but if her promotion helps shift motors, then good on it. If you're swayed by who or what is promoting a car then you're not really a true petrol head anyway and probably shouldn't be reading this forum. Buy it (or not) based on the merits of the vehicle in question, not on what you think someone might think of you.
