Quick tip:

If you are buying led festoon bulbs, SMD's etc make sure and buy them direct on ebay from Hong Kong.

Sellers in this country are simply taking the p**s on prices.

I have bought another load of 10 x white led SMD's for somehting like £3.00 inc delivery from a seller in HK. They sell for something like £5+ for just 2 x here.

My old car came with them, hated them, only the part of the reg directly under the bulbs were visible, and blue.

Not me.

I've removed both my number plate bulbs. I prefer not illuminating the rear plate.
MOT failure?

Or is it a case of if they're there, they have to work?
The tester just turns a blind eye. After all I could put them in for the test and then 1 minute later remove them again so he just saves me the effort.

Just out of interest, why would you rather not illuminate the rear number plate?

I just like them like that.

I don't really know why.

I saw a number plate last week which had red LEDs where the screws would have been. Could barely see the reg.

That was probably the point... Damned tasteless chavs.

yes

Although I don't think it was on a particularly chavtastic car. Some sort of people carrier IIRC.

I like them.

Does not look as localised in real life

Each to their own, but this is what I mean.

And in the flesh, most of the ones I've seen are so bright, you can't make out several of the characters on the plate.

It's catching, perhaps I should get some? smile

looks a lot more even in reality. You'll notice that the tail light also looks very bright. That's a standard bulb. Without an SLR getting a good picture at night is hard.

Apologies for thread reboot - I was just curious about this as the trend for “super bright numberplate lights” seems to be increasing....and I still can’t figure out the point?

The numberplate is usually legible so clearly they aren’t intended to fool speed cameras. Is it just “look at me, I’m cool” thing? confused

Another equally stupid trend (having the underside of your car lit with neon bulbs) seems to have died out.

I like them, it makes it easier to identify bellends and give them a wide birth....(also see wind deflectors/mis spaced crap number plates) If all three get combined on a white diesel "AMG" e220d with a pano roof and tints you can shout "house".
