Have you had a look around the industrial estates, daniels way, wighay, newstead village?

In all honesty, these cars are shipped off abroad almost instantly, I doubt it was some scrotes looking for a quick joyride. Good luck regardless, I can't imagine how sickening it would be to have my car nicked off my own drive.

Sorry to hear about your beemer, hope you get it back in one piece. Out of curiosity, will insurance still cover a car where keys have been taken from an unlocked house?

Same thing happened to my gf, they came in and took her handbag and drove off in her mini cooper. Insurance paid out as it was agreed that you shouldn't have to lock the door whilst you are in the house, although this was the back door and they had obviously jumped the fences. If the door is unlocked when no one is home, then it is looked at differently.

Its great people locally will keep an eye out but I wonder the same thing everytime a thread like this pops up
What do you guys think is the chance the crooks will be using it to do their shopping in the local area? They will not be driving it about, it will be in a garage/lock up until it is shipped abroad or many many miles away.

Don't want to sound a prick, really do hope you get your motor back some how OP

No, but it is normally fairly local scum that have them away and they just park them up and leave them for a couple of days to see if they have a tracker on. The few that i know have been recovered are found either in busy side roads or in communal parking on housing estates.

^ They are frequently driven to a local side street and observed for a couple of days (in case the car was fitted with a tracking system). It's quite possible that this D3 hasn't gone too far away.....yet.

Hope it's recovered OP.

Edit. Beaten to it by 4key!

Having just shipped a car overseas I've been amazed at how easy it was. This was a car I don't own but all I had to do was book a container (done online) and deliver it. No paperwork and no need to prove who I was or that the owner consented.

I live on the Notts/Derbyshire boarder, I'll keep my eyes open.

As others have said, checking side roads within 5 miles may be a good idea.

Who found it, the police or the owner?

So sorry to hear your car got nicked mate, but glad nobody had to come into direct contact with the scum.

May I suggest something like this for next time (and as a suggestion to all other PH'ers):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Realtime-GSM-GPRS-GPS-Tr...

Cost £50, just needs a Pay & Go sim. You can use it to track the car, listen in to what people in the car are saying and even remotely cut the fuel pump.
