RE: Lexus limo gets AMG snarl
Discussion
Seems to be an answer to a question no one is asking. The new LS series is really magnificent. And better than trying to create an LS cum AMG, they need to work harder on a halo car and an R8 priced sports car. The LFA turned out too little too late and though it's really quite remarkable it's not a fitting 'halo car'. They need to take another shot at that, and get in the game of a high-performance mid-engine $150K (U.S.) Porsche/Audi competitor. They'll sell plenty of those and move the perspective of their mid- and high-end sedans as well.

"But neither of those ranges features a rival to the TS650. In fact, the Lexus is somewhat in a class of its own – even the S63 AMG can ‘only’ muster 537bhp. Which begs the question: will anyone buy a car like this? Or is it just too big and too powerful to make a case for itself?"
S65 AMG has 612bhp or have you forgotten that?
The King will remain the king.

If I want to waft home in a silent cocoon of refinement, whilst listening to possibly the best in-car sound systems known to human kind to soothe my troubles away - then I'll head over to Lexus.
You're referring to the Mark Levinson branded installation? The one made by Pioneer rather than Madrigal Labs (a division of Harmon Kardon)?
Next time you have a chance, step inside a Panamera, and listen to the Burmester system.
Highly confident it'll show the Levinson as fitted to the Lexus for what it really is - a cross-marketing exercise.
However, I would hope that Porsche are as confident as you are that their optional Burmester system has the edge over the Levinson in the Lexus, given that Porsche will charge you £3.4k extra for it, and the Levinson one is standard.
It will certainly make an interseting alternative to the obvious rivals for those with the money who like to be different. I think this will sell very well in the USA where they dont seem to hold the same predjudice towards Lexus as Europeans do.

Dont want to get too far off topic, after all this is Pistonheads, and we're discussing a 600hp Lexus.

I think that North Americans don't have the same prejudice towards CERTAIN Lexuses (Lexi?) that Europeans do - the RX350 is very popular here for instance and the IS is decently popular too. However there are more BMW 3s, MB C classes and Audi A4s than Lexus IS's, and theres a LOT more S-Classes and 7-series cars than LS460s, which are seemingly as rare as hen's teeth compared with the dime a dozen GermansHowever, I would hope that Porsche are as confident as you are that their optional Burmester system has the edge over the Levinson in the Lexus, given that Porsche will charge you £3.4k extra for it, and the Levinson one is standard.

I wonder how that compares to South America then, as when I was in Florida a few weeks ago I saw quite a large selection of Lexuses in with all the usual domestics. It was the first time I'd ever seen an 'ES' in the flesh too. Me no likey!

Europe/The UK won't buy it because it has the wrong badge. Everyone else will love it though.
Was just going to say that too.All Lexus need to do is make their cars a little more showy and the Audi lot (formerly BMW lot) will move over to them.
