The comparison with the Veyron on Ehra-Lessien is utterly mad. The Veyron looked like it had a sort of "flight plan" to achieve its top speed - "you must hit this mark at this speed or the attempt is toast" etc - but to be able to just do it in the straight drag without worrying about the corner at the other end is a massive step forward.
