RE: Driven: Ford Focus Zetec S Mountune MP200
Discussion
If this engine is compact enough it has some great potential in the kit car world. Fitting one in a Caterfield could be pretty good. In fact lots of people try to tune the engine in the Ford KA but it's such an old design it makes it not worth the money but if this fits it would give a nice little 200bhp pocket rocket, and probably improve the fuel economy!

Why has no one said this yet - A THOUSAND POUNDS FOR TWENTY BHP!
Are people mental?
A £5 boost valve would do that!
No point in doing it properly then? I know there's not going to be a huge boost increase for that amount of power, but I still think making sure the map extends safely out and the intercooler can handle the extra charge aren't entirely stupid... over engineered in this case? Possibly, but at least you can be pretty sure it's going to be robust, unlike boost valves tacked on.Are people mental?

Its already been done, with the 1.0ltr 3cyl engine. However even that had space issues.Edited by poing on Tuesday 27th November 22:39
In a Ka, though. Yes, that would be interesting!
Not just Ford/Vauxhall. Same goes for Audi, Mercedes etc. unless you are a mug and would think because your buying German means you pay top whack.

You really do have to question the relevance of official RRP's when it comes to cars from Ford, Vauxhall etc.
The pricing strategy has to be looked at again.

This reminds me of 'Fast Ford' magazine back in the early 90's. They ran a series of articals on the Escort Mk3 RS Turbo, where various tuning houses had squeezed ever more power out of the blown 1.6 CVH. I think they got up to around 243bhp in the end, but the things were undrivable.
I wonder how far they will go with this engine

‘sound symposer’, no doubt adjusted by twiddling the c**t button thats next to the wa**er knob? £1000 for this "upgrade" is best summed up thusly, ha, haaa, ha, haaaaaaa
Ford has simply lost all of its credability and are firmly stamping the name into a runny turd.
I will not buy another Ford anytime soon. They appeal to me on no level nowadays.

Did you not bother to read the article?Ford has simply lost all of its credability and are firmly stamping the name into a runny turd.

"This gizmo is essentially a pipe which ‘feeds’ sound from the intake manifold through to the bulkhead. It has whiffs of artificiality about it, but this is no synthesized engine note being played back through the stereo."
And can you explain how Ford has lost all of their credibility when they are building and selling cars that get great reviews across the motoring press? CAR, for example, just picked the ST as their favourite hot hatch.
Jeez.
Edited to add - until you can spell 'credibility', don't try and say that someone else doesn't have any.

Probably showing my age here, but why does an engine bay now have to be completely covered in large swathes of black plastic? Is it rude to show a few actual components, a bit of aluminium casting or metal fabrication?
Because there are no aluminium castings or metal fabrication. It's all a sea of black plastic components and wires etc. The plastic covers simply hide all this mess and offer some form of protection from the elements.jonnydm said:
Article mentions Zetec S first available as a trim package on the previous Focus but it was its own model on the 00 Fiesta.
Presumably because the article is talking about the Focus, not the Fiesta. The first tiem Zetec S was used on the Focus range was on the last model.Mark Wibble said:

I would never advocate some one sticking a boost valve on a car with a standard 8-10psi and cranking it up to 15-20psiBut it's a myth that you cant add a few PSI of boost to an engine alone to get a bit more kick.
I used to have an MR2 Turbo which as standard runs 10psi (revision 2 model)
I added a "G-valve" which is popular on those, turned the boost up to 13psi and ran it for a year without a single problem. Power increased by 20bhp based on the same set of rollers for 3psi of boost.
After that mod, then I started with the serious business of intercoolers, maps, EBC's etc, but that £5 mod was the single best VFM mod I ever did to any car.
If it worked so well on a 1992 MR2 with nearly 80k on the clock it'll work on this.
Regarding warranties - fair enough, Ford may not like it, then again, they may not notice it.
Or, buy one out of warranty in a couple of years.
Regarding insurance - if you tell them it wont void it.
