Not knocking your Lotus but try driving it to Spain and back, 1300 miles each way, my XKR didn't miss a beat and I got out both ends feeling as fresh as a daisy.biggrin
I've done 500 miles in a day no probs. The Lotus is a real mile muncher. OK, no cruise control, but still v quiet at speed. But I do concur that the XKR is a real GT in the proper sense of the term. That is it's raison d'etre to my mind - to do your sort of trip.
The Lotus is good on a track too (ducks for cover...)

ITS NOT A fkING TRACK CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First fking post. THE FIRST fkING POST FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I assume supreme dictatorship every single goddam bd ed mother fker who mentions "round a track" when talking about a road car...Im going to fking shoot in the dick. Its not enough you Goddam morons have tried your best to ruin every single damn car in the last decade, but you EXPRESSLY AND OBJECTIVELY SET OUT TO RUIN CARS WHICH ARE THE fkING OPPOSITE OF TRACK CARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you ruin them for the rest of us!! So please, for the love of fking God, the next time you feel you might like something vaguely GT'ish DONT take it on the fking track and dont fking whinge about it. That way, maybe, just maybe those of us who actually do require a GT to do the GT job of crossing the Continent to get home can actually buy a car that hasnt had its ride ruined in search of some mythical time around the fking 'Ring!
Shooting someone in the dick is an interesting option! Possibly quite hard to carry out in reality in the heat of the moment, but a fun idea all the same.

It's why I bought one as they are great value for money. It allowed me a nice budget to do some mods,
Suspension, wheel spacers, exhaust, tuning. The sound of this car is awesome, beats any V8 American car I've owned in the past.
This is truly the UK's secret muscle car

My name's John and I had an XKR problem. It was the previous shape, which I preferred and could afford.

I had it twelve weeks - six in the workshop on-and-off for works (under warranty, thank god), and six on the road.

It took two head gaskets, a new supercharger, ECUs, exhaust system ...
It burned £1200 of my own money in fuel, in the six weeks I was driving it.
Then I wrote it off by doing XXX mph without the talent to hold the wheel, nearly killing myself and one of the bridesmaids for my upcoming wedding.

And I still don't regret owning it.
I tip my hat to you sir for a first class post. This, Ladies and Gents, could be the ultimate stealth sleeper post, a member since '07 and nothing, til BOOM..... this post. If you were in my region my friend I would buy you a drink. Now then.............. was she worth it, bridesmaid that is? wink

I think my car has the nicest rear end of any sub 80k car. In fact, I think you'd have to put another 40k or so on the table to own something with a better rear!

This 5.0 XKR is a totally different car to my old 4.2

I do however regret not spending a bit more and and getting a XKR-S in that sporty matt blue colour frown

Not interested in how it is on a track but can talk from experiencef running one (57 plate XKR) for 7 months. It was a beautiful car and stonkingly fast. Economy was surprisingly good at 24mpg on a quick trip down to Italy and back. Gearbox was superb with instant paddle shifters.

However, even on newish tyres it was terrifying in wet weather, developed a very noisy back diff,a gearbox oil leak and numerous rattles. Car was very wide.

In retrospect standard XK was a sweeter car and a far better GT. Suspect, funds permitting, lastest 5.0 XK the pick of the bunch.

Glad I've ticked that box but another Maserati my next one. Granturisismos down to £35k.

To respond to Jobbo - having run a Series 4 928 S4 Auto back in the day and now with a facelift Jaguar XK Coupe 5.0 Litre, yes, I would say that the current XK150 is a pretty true replacement for the 928.

I tried the XK-R and the XK 5.0 and ended up agreeing with Autocar that the normally-aspirated car is the sweeter day-to day steer. The 5 litre engine is also a better drive than the older 4.2, I found. Some interior trim upgrades from 2009 on also helped re that decision, but be aware (boo, hiss, Jaguar) there's no spacesaver spare wheel as a standard fit any more for post - 2009 cars. Having twice in my time failed to get a punctured tyre working with that foam can nonsense, I've bought a spare wheel, fitting kit & jack for mine, second-hand at 1/2 the price the dealers wanted.

At present, though, the current XK150 model has a suprisingly tight supply situation in the UK market. I did my usual trick of looking for one in the top car auctions for 4 months. Drew a complete blank there before concluding that the 2009 - & on models are mostly out on leases and so probably nearly all going back into the Jag dealer network. Right now mine (coming up 2 years old) is apparently retailing at more than I paid.

The aluminium XK 150 model coupe is almost the same weight & size as the S4 928. Might explain why DJRC didn't like it. Also the XK-R is heavier and then the convertible is more weight again, so, the lower BHP on mine is offset by less weight, in part. And I don't have to stop & visit the pumps quite so often.

A 996 is chalk & cheese to a 928, but give me the journey of UK - Italy return to do and some alpine pass driving [as when I went to the Monza F1 race this September], I'll take the modern XK as a proper grand tourer over a 996 any day.

More comfort, more space - and the Italian crowd reaction was - way more elegance & style. Jaguar UK should have me on commission for the number of questions I fielded.. You don't get that warm audience response from any current 911...

It's not perfect but it is a very good long-distance GT car. Reliability niggles? I'll let you know, but looking OK so far.

No, actually. The old grunters are still driving S-types; or earlier XJ's.

Arthur Daley casts a long shadow in the UK, I agree, but the buying demographic in Jaguars' main markets is significantly younger. Most XK owners I've met are 40's - 60's, but then again, that is also the demographic of most Merc and Porsche owners.

As for sleeping at the lights - have you driven one? Put the box under manual control and smoke the baseball cap brigade away at the green..

If I was 60+ probably would.
Easy to get in and out and nice soft ride plenty of cred so you won't get abused when you've fallen asleep at the lights. Should bring back plenty of memories of the 70's ...
Idiot post from yet another idiot Internet forum user talking out of his anus as he clearly hasn't driven or probably even been in the latest XKR.

Stick to posting about Fords or whatever trash you drive!

^Agree with this. Old one was a very very nice elegant design (and I don't even like Jags).
