The late 3sgte is fine as found in ST205 Celicas and this rev 4 mr2 the early ones a bit crap. Guy went home early from MSE track day with his rev2 on Friday, seemed as troublesome as my old one.
My st185 gte was trouble free after 100k of thrashing. Not pampered in any way

Just bought my first Mk2. It's a Rev 4 with a few breathing mods (no boost controller... yet) and it's fantastic. Sounds mental on boost but is surprisingly civilised at normal speeds when cruising. It was a toss up between this, a Mk3 or a MX5 BBR. I went for this and don't regret it for a second. Let's hope it's as reliable as many have said!
A few of you may have seen it in the classifieds
Nice MR2! Love those big back tyres. I remember sitting at up for a coffee on a drive out with a mate (an R230 SL500 owner), marvelling at the look of of cars from behind. Both seemed to have impossibly big back tyres for their respective sizes, even though mine were only 225's! They looked much bigger and more aggressive than the chunky 245's my later Audi A8 had on it. A few of you may have seen it in the classifieds
I'll be going back to the MR2 soon, for a manual Roadster, preferably a 6 speed if I can find one. I'd rather a Turbo, I think, but I know I'll struggle to find one as good as the one I sold and I don't really fancy traipsing down the country looking for one (most seem to be far down south, though my old Turbo was originally imported to Rothienorman). The Mk3 should provide some fun, I've been in them before and found them a good laugh and a good steer, and a nice place to sit. Shame the engine is less explosive than the 3S-GTE! At least, they are bigger to sit in than my 106 Rallye, which I am a bit tall for.
Here are some snaps of my Turbo, for old times sake, a 1994 Rev 3 on staggered alloys (195 to 225). The only modification apart from the wheels was an HKS turbo timer and when I sold it, I had removed the crap Sony stereo and fitted a brilliant Alpine iDA-X313. I'll be getting one of those when I grab a Mk3 next year!

It is possible to turbocharge a mk3, you can get 200bhp with a bolt on turbo, in a car weighing 200kg less than a mk2.I'll be going back to the MR2 soon, for a manual Roadster, preferably a 6 speed if I can find one. That could spoil the car though. The mk3 (especially the first gen) were pin sharp. If the throttle response was dulled by a turbo, it could spoil it a littlejames_gt3rs said:

There was a limited edition factory turbo Gen 3 MR2, they are rare and I would probably prefer a supercharged engine, which would fit the car dynamics better, same sharp response, just more ooomfff.QuantumTokoloshi said:
