Start engine, switch climate to full heat in both zones, switch heated front and rear screens on, switch heated seat on, wait 5 mins at most and Im ready to drive off. How easy is that?
I have a Saab and do this and its normally done and ready to go in under 5 min's, I always carry a plastic scraper though just incase that works perfectly fine for me.

Warm water is a bit difficult walking out of work at 9pm! Thanks for the serious suggestions.
Have you considered a flask? It needn't be very warm; tepid works too.
I used to take a drinks bottle and fill it up with warm water before I left and just squirt it on the windscreen before sticking the wipers on.

Blimey, you have to do that out in the desert. yikes
I have converted my garage to double up as "little England", it's where I go when I get homesick, it's dark for 20 hours a day, wet, every time I go in my car is frozen up, there are some poorly dressed vagabonds in the corner intimidating me, one of which usually mugs me and a bloke with a briefcase tries to take half my salary.

Sorry for the thread bump, but I was using my combined brush/scraper doodad this morning (I need the exercise) and I wondered what all the kettlists used for clearing snow.

Obviously warm water works just fine on ice, but how does it cope with 4" of snow? Do you wipe the snow off with a jug of water before pouring or what?

Did you know in the latest BMW's (for anyone who has one!) you can start the car normally with key. Take the key out, put your foot on the clutch and the car will start with a press of the start stop button without the key in. You can then lock the car and go back in the house and let it warm up and de-ice.

Not sure on the insurance implications though as you have not left your key in the car but it is started although locked..

If you have comfort entry, you can leave the house with the key in your pocket, get in the car, start it up, lock it and walk away with the key still in your pocket, without actually touching the key at any point.

If you leave a car running on the road without anyone in it, be aware that's a specific offence.
