I'm sad they've dropped the v10. The rs6 was always a dream car for me, just because it was always OTT in the engine department. A v8 isn't quite as special.

Is this the new Gallardo engine then?

Looks great and am sure it will be a hoot to drive!!!! Don't like the seats though..... reminds me of those god awful Zeemax Jaguar interiors.......

I owned an original shape RS6 Avant a few years ago, it was by far the best 'do it all' car I have ever had!! They are not cheap to run in terms of servicing and parts, although find a good Audi Specialist and this can improve slightly.

I am looking to trade in my S4 Avant for the current RS6 Avant next year, as really want another!

Who actually buys these ?

Even the wealthier people I know seem to have gone for higher end diesels.
People who like to drive cars? Wealthier people running diesels probably arn't that into driving.
What a weird statement!!!!!

I do alright for myself yet i've just bought a 62 plate c220 estate because i want it to carry my bikes.

I absolutely love driving my cars and screw the tits of my bikes, however i really fancied a diesel.

I know it sounds unbelievably strange but i really like the challenge of seeing what i can get out of a full tank, i mean i really scrutinize the mpg.
Yet i've got a 4.4 Range Rover which i couldn't care less about the fuel economy.

It's just a fun game to play on what is now a very boring place to drive (Britain).

I just bought an ML63 - it's big, fast, loads of space in the boot, makes a great sound and sold my Ferrari for it because I've got a baby on the way.

Loads of people would have them imo if they didn't mind the petrol bills, and to be honest those are far lower in things like this than a F430 / Gallardo etc.

I'm sure most owners will be happy they don't make them without the chocolate gearboxes and dodgy suspension of the original.

I think this new RS6 looks great, I would have one over a BMW M or Merc AMG.
I think the thing about the V10 that isn't mentioned is that 580 BHP from a V10 bi turbo is quite a reserved state of tune, can't they be taken to 700 ish BHP for not a great deal of money?.

This or the new FFRR though?, if I was in the position to buy either I think I would have to flip a coin.

A FFRR won't do 190mph or 0-60 in under 4 seconds biggrin

RS6 wins!

I have fond memories of the V8s from when I was doing a summer job in 2003 at my (now long defunct) local Audi dealer. I drove a couple but just seeing them around was a pleasure.

My ol' man had a 2.8q saloon between 1999 and 2011. The build quality on those sixes was brilliant, as with most Audi models around the time.

Shame they now look awful.

These lads would probably approve though:

The Essex boys will love them too hehe

I've got to admit I love the RS6, in fact I love the whole concept of the RS, AMG and M cars, practical, (mostly) understated and stupidly quick, however if you spend any amount of time in traffic jams there really isn't a nicer, more relaxing place to be than at the wheel of a FFRR, and for that reason I really would find this a hard choice if I had £80k to spend on a car, although I think the RS6 might just edge it.

I do love the looks of the original, it's very understated but their running costs can be so horrific, I was considering one but went for the safer AMG option instead.

I think the new one looks pretty good, although a bit more aggressive, I don't think the red helps in that respect, the dark grey one though looks good.

I was just getting used to a computer-controlled manual transmissions on these sporty barges (as well as sports and supercars) and here comes one that regresses all the way back to a slushbox. Oh, I mean a wet automatic.
That and springy turbos and this is plain and simple regression. And it's likely accompanied by Audi's legendary engine-on-front-axle wheel scrubbing pushing and you have an utter disappointment. I'll not be looking for this one new or used. The 10 cylinder (a friend at work calls hers 'the Beast') OTOH...

Hmm "Time for a new RS6, then – one that drops a couple of cylinders and 100kg"....

Might be quick in straight line acceleration, but trust me these RS6s go like bloated whales round the twisties. I had a 2009 RS6. Very disappointing drive dynamically.
Are they really that bad?

I had an '07 3.0 V6 turbo quattro, sportline, le mans, execuchav thing-a-majig for a few months, and whislt it rode like all four tyres were flat (or not fitted for that matter - which is why I got rid), it did handle very well. Went round corners as rapidly as I'd ever want to on public roads.

Is the V10 engine that much heavier than the V6 oil burner?

I vividly remember conning the garage owner that the Audi A6 which needed delivering wasn't worth his time and so I was given the job of delivering the cheapest RS6 I'd even seen to it's new owner.

This was 4+ years ago and it has been nabbed for £14K, OK it was GOLD and a bit tatty around the edges (the interior had been used as for a toddler's playgroup I think) but BY ALL THAT IS HOLY I've driven almost nothing like it.

It was the Millenium Falcon in every way except for the not-starting part - in a straight line the only thing I've driven which felt quicker was a Conti GT and there wasn't a lot in it.

Corners - I thought it did VERY well for a near-2-tonne estate, it's not a hot hatch by any means but it could be hustled reasonably I thought.

Complaints? The steering wasn't brilliant and - erm - that's about it.

There's one in the classified for £8500 and it's not gold either smile

As awesome and this car probably is - it's a no from me.

The facelift E63 2wd or 4Matic is where it's at for me.
