You misunderstand what I meant by "decent sized". I meant something you can shove a fridge freezer in if you need to; or that you can easily carry a couple of Great Danes around in.

I'm sure plenty of people need more luggage capacity than a saloon can offer without needing four seats.

Hth.
Because of course that's as good to drive and as refined as a 3-series? confused

A far better example would have been the 3-series estate with the seats folded down, but plenty of people seem to have a bizarre dislike of driving something that looks like an estate.

I suppose I'm thinking of something like a 3-door version of the A5 sportback.

So you want a car that's decent to drive but you need to carry round a fridge or some dogs but you don't really need 4 doors or easy access to the rear seats. Sorry have to agree with Zespak on this one, they fill a requirement that is so obfuscous it's pretty pointless, a niche too far IMO.

I was thinking of it more as a 2+2 coupe with a decent sized boot.
confused Isn't that exactly what the 3 series coupé is?
Exactly wink
Since when did the 3 series coupe have a hatch rear?

Kambites means some like the 3 series touring, with the styling of (and number of doors of) the coupe. I see the point in it.

If you put it like that, sounds perfect for BMW! hehe

So like most of the cars coming out of Germany these days, then? hehe

Good to see BMW getting back to the aggressive stance of the past, interested to see how it looks in the flesh.

I do laugh when people say "another pointless model" to new German cars.

It's as if loads of PH members know better than the marketing department than ridiculously successful, multi-billion pound companies.

Oh, and the models sell. So clearly they know something.

They sell because marketing departments have now become VERY good at making a product AND THEN creating the demand for it by making the public think they want\need it. This is how those multi-billion pound companies have become even more successful over the last decade wink

It doesn't matter why people buy a car; if it sells, it's not pointless (at least as far as the manufacturer is concerned).

Exactly.

PH - a complete lack of choice matters.

Which would be fine if I owned shares in BMW but unfortunately I don't so I feel that gives me the right to moan about all the pointless, ste cars that fill up our roads these days smile

Anyway straying wildly off topic so err..the new 4 is decent looking IMO and will look even better in the flesh IMO. Let's hope it doesn't weigh 2 tonnes and has decent ride quality to match.

Old 8 Series - Coupe
6 series - Coupe
4 series - Coupe
Rumoured 2 series, also a Coupe.

Anyone else notice the even numbered Coupe-ness of it all??

As is the death of the internal combustion engine, that doesn't mean people have to like it.
Not to sure, given the abundance of shale reserves. More efficient hybrids will be the way ahead for quite some time, I think.

BTW you actually seem to like this BMW! hehe

I think that this is the best looking car they've produced for years, along with the 6 Series GranCoupe (the normal 6 Series is looking good to me too now I see it around a lot, whereas the last one always looked droopy-snouted and heavy tailed).

You're saying they haven't produced a decent looking car in ages? New Z4 isn't a bad looker by any stretch.
