I want to like it, but car looks too fussy.
Maybe it will grow on me.

The PH article says 8cm wider rear track; surely that's the widest point on the car except for the wing mirrors, isn't it?
No, the rear track isn't always the widest point of a car. To give you an example of cars that don't have it at all: Citroën DS, Triumph Spitfire.

That being said, being a BMW, it'll probably sell like pancakes...

I know it's not always the widest part; it just looks like it probably is in this case.

a 3/5-door 'brake' to accompany the 3-touring might be a worthwhile (read: pointless) marketing innovation.

Yet another BMW. Who needs it?
A bit of crude maths and a few assumptions say about 537,000 people need it if global sales of the E92 Coupe are anything to go by.
Hardly surprising that a business in the business of making money would see fit to find a replacement for one of its most successful models?

Some of the fussy detail around the lower front grille and rear exhaust/diffuser may yet be watered down before it reaches production, but I really rather like it. thumbup

Edit: Forgot to add approximately 318,000 E92 Convertibles sold since 2007 on top of the 537,000 coupes.

I'd say this will be a very good seller for BMW.

Can't wait to see the insanely overpriced M4.

wtf is going on at the back? it looks broken.
I agree, that did strike me as strange, but "broken" captures it perfectly.

Hmm not convinced, although would have to see and drive it in the flesh; my 330D Coupe M sport (which I really rate; am on my second one) comes up for renewing next year, having seen this I might look elsewhere for a replacement. As some have said earlier in the thread, all the euro coupes are beginiing to look very similar

Not a bad looking car that, not too sure about the backend, looks too fussy, and what is wrong with just round exhaust pipes.

here's a thought.....did you know that when ordering a new car, you often get to "choose" what colour the interior is? it's amazing you aren't forced to have a brown interior these days.

they do seem to have a habit of it, like the 6 series gran coupe thingy......it looks hideous and i'd be amazed if it accounted for even 1% of sales!!

You wouldn't believe there's any colours available but black, looking at the second hand market. frown
