Two Shocking examples of all that is wrong with current car design.

you've clearly not been in a car anything like one of these have you. these aren't designed for the fecking race track. they're nothing short of EPIC at what they're for.

Love the idea of a part-time supercharger that kicks in on kick down in the Merc.. very Mad Max in a Hugo Boss suit
The Bentley still looks a little 'gold rolex' to me.
Just to confirm (for the hard of understanding) - the 'part time Supercharger' does not appear on this Merc, but on one from the 1930's The Bentley still looks a little 'gold rolex' to me.

There are two types of 'drivers car', the Elise is at one End of the scale and the Mercedes CL is at the other. Retired down south? Have you just sold your pub ? Then you really Must Buy a Blobby Bentley or a Monger Mercedes ......

Totally agree but why do they have to make the Bentley and CL look so bleedin awful.Shocking design. What ever way you look at them.
i'm not a fan of the styling of the bentley but don't mind the merc. prefer the older W215 though. styling is subjective, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean people who can actually afford to buy one (i.e. those who bentley/merc are looking at!) doesn't.

Au contrair, mon ami!Shocking design. What ever way you look at them.
Now close your eyes and imagine you're in it, It's night and there are 3 classy lady passengers with you, you're turning up at a chateau for a cocktail party. Classy is an understatement.

Those wheels are about as far from classy as you can get.
I'd still have the Merc though, hate the facelift front on the CGT, the lights look ridiculous.
They need to be swapped round so that the bigger ones are on the outside.
I do struggle with larger lights inside of smaller lights - I remember when the queen got her Bentley being amazed at what seemed a styling faux-pas at the front. I think the bigger lights should always be on the outside (70's Jag XJ etc.) though I'm sure someone will now put on some staggering beauty of a car with the bigger lights inboard!I'd still have the Merc though, hate the facelift front on the CGT, the lights look ridiculous.

as mentioned in the article then. you read that one thoroughly didn't you.
PH is a serious, funny and thorough blog, so why make a trite and cheap title and a non article, was my point. However need to explain it in obviuous text.
Both these cars are epic....ally dull. The Audi looks like a jelly mould where Peter Wheeler has poked holes for lights. The engine noise is manufactured, the only redeemying feature providing anything other than dull, cocooned "driving experience" is the supercharger on the Merc.
I have driven the Bentley. The interior is an exercise in out loud thinking. How can we make it as emotionless as possible but try to make it a pastiche of something that used to exist. Oh yes analogue clock and some bits of wood.
To reestablish pulse and sensory awarenes as well as being sensible and plesant there are so many better new and used alternatives.
