So hypothetically I could own 1/3rd of Aston Martin for the same amount of money it takes to buy a car from them...
Does 1/3rd ownership of a company entitle me to a company car? I'll take an Aston.
150 Million pounds...not thousand! Does 1/3rd ownership of a company entitle me to a company car? I'll take an Aston.

It wasn't ready. Marketing people at Aston were very dejected about the whole thing to be fair but it just wasn't there!
Connection's still there.
I've been thinking about this since October. What "wasn't there"? A new model? Obviously the Vanquish couldn't have featured but the Rapide could have easily replaced the XJ and the film would be all the better for it. I was expecting a Virage actually before I saw it. Even a Cygnet for comic value.Connection's still there.
But nothing.
Is Bond's next car to be an F Type? Is that really what EON wants?

Wait a minute they did. Frequently.Lots of smoke and mirrors at play. Leaving it on a cliff allows them to negotiate the best return.
What I would guess is that AML don't need to pay what another firm would as they have the legacy effect. Bond will always be linked the AML whatever he drives in the next film.
Personally, I think AML should keep the money and plough it into a Lagonda SUV that has more luxury than RR and whatever Bentley come up with. They need an SUV to rebuild unit numbers and push into key markets.

The DB5 was destroyed in Skyfall and I don't recall another Aston in the film. Leaving the door open for Bond to use another marque maybe?
I doubt the original was destroyed. It's just a film and a bit of CGI.The DB5 should still be at Gaydon, but probably there are lots of duplicates as in any movie being produced.

The franchise will want to screw every last penny out of any marketing deal so personally, I read nothing into the current status.

You could well be right but personally I'd rather they returned to their core business of building high-quality GT cars and kept the volumes relatively low. Lots of smoke and mirrors at play. Leaving it on a cliff allows them to negotiate the best return.

Anything else devalues the brand IMHO. Unfortunately the only way they could have done this is if they were owned by another car company and had access to the R&D budget + parts sharing.

100% this. The Lagonda concept looked quite nice compared to that Bentley abomination, and it would sell in big numbers and at a big price to boot - people want to buy the cars, it's just than A-M don't make the cars people want to buy in big numbers. Porsche would have been bust were it not for the Cayenne, Jaguar doesn't work without LR propping it up.

In an ideal world, I agree. There is nothing wrong with focussing on one thing and being the best. Anything else devalues the brand IMHO. Unfortunately the only way they could have done this is if they were owned by another car company and had access to the R&D budget + parts sharing.
I suspect that modern taxation and legislation forces this diversification and in many ways dilution of brands.
There is also the aspect that not having growth is seen as a bad thing. The moment you have investors they want 3-5 year growth forecasts and exit plans.
II aren't in for the long haul and DAR want their money out so Aston are in a kind of st or bust position. Sadly.
I do wish that the British people would back their own products though. Some of the remarks tend to be a little depressing.

Seeing the way Tata have managed JLR they would be my ideal candidate for Aston ownership.
Maybe they would see them as the "jewel in the crown" and develop them in the Ferrari mould. See what I did there

AM Due to launch the zagato this year.
The problem is they've stuck with the awful pinched nose look, that was never a zagato style.
A pity they couldn't get the old droopy lights look, back for the Z.
They really really need a new design.
They ought to use a different styling house so as to use the limited edition runs as a test area for styling changes. The problem is they've stuck with the awful pinched nose look, that was never a zagato style.

Zagato brings nothing new to the party but then I suspect it I an awful lot cheaper?

Quite. As it is though Aston have a rival for easiest job in the world:http://www.pistonheads.com/porsche/default.asp?sto...

I actually don't have an issue with the looks remaining samey. I don't think it drums up replacement business like the Porsche way of doing it though.
However, the LE runs are an opportunity to risk really breaking away and I can't see Zagato ever being the partner to do this with as they are as samey as Aston themselves.
