RE: 'Performance' crossovers gain more ground
Discussion
Every time I see a vehicle like this on the road I think knob. This is compounded by the fact that I often see then driven at 40 on 60 mph NSL single carriageways braking for every gentle meander in the road.
What was the line in the juke advert, "the ultimate urban car" or something like that? What the actual fk.

A bit strong no?I don't particularly like the juke or countryman but I certainly make no assumptions about the driver, nor do I hate them for it.
As far as the vehicle concept goes... I think it's sound but they need to design a nicer looking car that fits the requirements. The juke especially is just fugly

I like the fact that there's diversity in design; weirdly enough I actually quite like the look of the Juke.
But every time I see a Countryman on the road i think knob. Apologies for those owners reading this. For those who say you shouldn't make judgements - why on earth not? It's exactly the same as judging someone by what they're wearing. Perfectly rational, as long as you're then prepared to revise your judgement when presented with more to go on than first impressions.

Or I'll run you over. Cos I'm TOUGH. GRRRRRR!I think it's quite ridiculous that people feel so strongly about it.

The thing is - each to their own. I don't blame the manufacturers for building something that sells, I blame the people buying them.

Yes, when I see a "4x4" that isn't four wheel drive or even if it is, is useless off road, I think knob. Another example would be the prize tool I saw stuck in a thin sheet of snow in his X1 a few years ago. I was quite easily able to traverse the hill in my E36 when he gave up.
Oh and people carriers, especially those with five seats. I spend much of my time driving a van for work, so if you are holding up a van on the road you are indeed, a slow fk.

'Sporty' faux off-roaders (or whatever today's acronym of choice is) - like the X6 they're the engineering department's answer to a question that should never have been asked.
Let's take a car that's taller and heavier than equivalent sized normal cars, so it has more weight and a higher CoG, so to make it feel sporty will need to be more stiffly sprung. So you lose the main advantage of the non-sporty version of these things which is being taller means often a better ride comfort than equivalent hatch. It's heavier so it will be slower and less economic than the equivalent hatch.
So Pros and cons...
Pros: You sit higher and can see more.
Cons: Slower, worse fuel economy, poor ride comfort, looks ugly as sin...
Why would you?

At least nobody is pretending either of these cars are massive, yet.
I owned a Mini Cooper S -supercharged one and it was a pretty good car, well built, fun to drive the mini brand sucks you in. The Mini marketing dept are very good at what they do, took a brand and made it fashionable and accessable again and just keep churing out what people want. Aimed at 20 - 30 somethings with a bit of cash for the cooper and older people who want to be 20-30 but have the cash to add all the extras and make it 30k worth of car. People might hate it but Mini are one of the few european car brands expanding all the time. More of these to come!
I dont like it though, the car you never needed.
