RE: 'Performance' crossovers gain more ground

If someone gave me a 200hp manual Juke I'd probably drive it. I wouldn't pay £20k for one, but it would have to be worth a go!
Might mare more sense in some other markets. However, I think that there are much better choices if you want a subcompact SUV with performance. Tiguan for example. The Mini and Juke are both too small inside and are aesthetically rather errr... Um well... Errr... An acquired taste or something....Mini - really?
Looks more like a Maxi in terms of size and about as appealing as an Allegro styling wise....
I do wonder who buys this crap - I don't recall seeing very many of these or the estate versions around at all - surely the P&L analysis must show that the std mini and mini convertible are still the major sellers....

Due to a fecked knee I once went to have a look at and test drive a Juke.
Being a tall car it allowed me to very easily get into and out of it with no problem & no pain.
And needing a tall car, not needing 4x4 capability, and not wanting to pay much, it's ideal.
(I bought a Focus in the end - the Juke driving position was no good for me)
The looks are still marmite and the colour affects the looks greatly, in some colours I like the looks a lot, in some colours I think it's as ugly as Nora Batty.
Minis I hate. Stupid space hopper sized blob in the middle of the dash.
I've not that stupid that I let someones choice of car influence my opinion of the driver in it though.

It can hardly be called a "mini" anymore can it? It looks like a fat bird trying to squeeze into a skirt four sizes too small.
Not sure if serious. So what other AWD 5 door 5 seater SUV's are smaller?
If the name and branding is too confusing to grasp, just think of it in relative terms. e.g. a "mini" bus is actually a lot bigger than most cars. But in bus terms it's small. The Countryman might be bigger than some tiny city cars, but in relative terms it's tiny for a 4x4 SUV.

The Juke I can handle. Its an odd car with some added performance inspired by the rather interesting and fun Juke GTR. But the Mini, my god is that thing ugly. It looks like a mini that got fat and went in for plastic surgery that went wrong! *Barf* Plus its called a Mini, I know its a brand now and not a model but it makes the car one big contradiction. The only spin off I like was the Rocketman Concept.
To all the 'nob' chanters, its well documented 90% of the 4x4's on the road never go off road, Ranger Rover acknowledging this with the new model being more of a limo. These chanters are the same guys sitting in the pub puffing their chests and willy waving about their BHP and carbon fibre, when again 90% of these performance cars never touch a race track. These being the same people posting from Version 25.1.87 of the latest OS on the newest PDA recently synced with the turbo fantastic pentium processor with retina display on their PC that will never control the space ship they are watching on their 60" LED wifi enabled TV while slipping on their designer suit and cheap after shave. 'Nob' the mini driver hails as he drives past……Welcome to the 21st century of accessorising.

the bhp and carbon fibre make a difference every time you press the pedal, but the extra flabbiness of these cars is genuinely useless in most cases.johnnnnnnyy said:

Very true - it's possibly why most come with road tyres and not all-terrain. People like the height and space they generally offer and some like the idea it can go off-road very well in the same way that someone buys a 200mph-capable car but never takes it anywhere near that. I currently have a 4x4 that will not likely see more than a muddy field. Which is odd perhaps in that I really enjoy driving off-road and doing 4x4-type things. But I like doing those on Safari in Africa and have never really got into Greenlaning etc over here in the UK. Possibly not given it a decent enough bash to find the appeal. My idea of off-roading is seeing the amazing beauty of the African landscape and alls it flora and fauna.
So I'll hold my hand up and say I don't 'need' a 4x4 at all in the UK. However, I like them and that's all the reason I need. The same applies to anyone who likes any SUV / Crossover / Sports car etc.
As for these two, I'm not a fan of the Nissans looks but don't mind the Paceman. Wouldn't buy one, but it looks ok to me.
