What some of the posters above are saying is spot on. I think a manual V6 S in a couple of years time will be a fantastic buy. I just hope Jaguar have managed to sort out some of their electrical gremlins and build quality issues on these cars.

V8 is nice, but the V6 just sounds the business. I love a barking engine note, almost remincent of the 3.4/3.8 XK noise.

Love that sound.

I hear these all the time (I'm based in the midlands...). The V6 does sound fabulous! They really crackle and pop on the overrun, something not conveyed so much on the video.
I hope it stays like that. The crackle was the best sound! Not a fan of loud overruns (like an RS4 with a miltek) but the crackle on the video sounded perfect.

We need to hear a more objective full road test report.

I think the V6 for me sounds better than the V8, more free revving maybe and certainly more racy but i've no doubt that V8 is properly epic even though to me it sounded a bit muffled. Maybe it's just the way the vid has been edited and messed with. The car looks fantastic though, even with camouflage. cloud9

I don't doubt the positive test drive comments were genuine but as has been said a bit lovy dovy, and just need to be objective too.

Especially as far as sound goes

The Jag V8 is a bi-plane (cross-plane) V8. Always has been. Probably always will be.

I love Brundle's sincerity and spontaneity when he's in PR-mode rolleyes

Nice car, though, suspect the tin-top V8 S is going to be a bit special.

But... do I spy paddle-shifters made of plastic?! nono

I think the V6 S will be the pick of the range, either of the V6's would be for me purely for the twin central exhausts, I know it sounds daft but I think the quad exits on the V8 totally upset the rear end design of the car. When I first saw the press shots before the engine details were released I was convinced the centre exhausts would be the fast one and the quad the slow.

The noise is excellent, as are the looks inside and out, only thing for me is the price I do think it is expensive even for whats on offer. Everytime do the online build thing it comes out at 75k ish !!!
1. Drive both and then come back and say the V6 is the pick of the range. Honestly, you'll get over the 'upset design' of the exhausts for the performance and noise. Having had V6s and V8s, there's no contest.
2. Fab cars - both of them. Now go and drive an AM V8 Vantage (a year old or whatever works to match the economics) and its a tough call which one you'd have in garage.

Desirable car I think some of the non standard equipment is very tight though. I think there's alot resting on this car. XJ is a sales flop, XF is starting to get old and the 4 cyl diesel engine compared to rivals is not clean enough XK is also long in the tooth. No volume model under the XF tells me jag dealers must be having a tough time. I hope this car is a success for Jag.

V8 model you pay extra for cruise with speed limiting, blind spot mirrors, DAB, heated seats, Xenon lights, parking assist, navigation electric folding mirrors the list could go on.

Both engines sound lovely... until it changes gear and you get that horrible slurring rev drop that characterises a torque converter.

I agree and why not go for a 6yr old AM V8 and £250 private plate to hide its age as a 2nd/3rd car for the sunny drive, BUT that is not what this forum is about, its about jaguar releasing a new model that will (hopefully) see them successful now and into the future......

Sounds like a racing car which is good.

Now please Jaguar, do us PH mobsters a favour and drop in an entry level V6 F without the leather and polished ally, but with a Sparco and drilled pedals. Oh yummy. And while you are at it, leave out the sound insulation as that will save us some weight.

Couldn't agree more. To me the engine sounds nice but nothing more than that. Over the years there have been plenty of nice engine notes from sportscar manufacturers but more recently they all seem to be thwarted by torque converters. I'm sure the ultra fast change is efficient but whether you're the driver or a bystander there's a lot to be said for the time taken to change gear and the drama that is the power being re-applied. Like this!

PS. Yes I know it's not aimed at the same market as the new F Type but the manual change and all that accompanies it is absolutely relevant and can be adopted by any manufacturer
