Sounds like a racing car which is good.

Now please Jaguar, do us PH mobsters a favour and drop in an entry level V6 F without the leather and polished ally, but with a Sparco and drilled pedals. Oh yummy. And while you are at it, leave out the sound insulation as that will save us some weight.
From what I've been told, there will be manual versions of the V6 engined cars, in both convertible and coupe body styles.

There will also be a more 'R' version of the coupe with a GT3-style model coming as well.

I can't wait to see a V6S Coupe GT3 with a stick. Wowzer.

Couldn't agree more. To me the engine sounds nice but nothing more than that. Over the years there have been plenty of nice engine notes from sportscar manufacturers but more recently they all seem to be thwarted by torque converters. I'm sure the ultra fast change is efficient but whether you're the driver or a bystander there's a lot to be said for the time taken to change gear and the drama that is the power being re-applied. Like this!

PS. Yes I know it's not aimed at the same market as the new F Type but the manual change and all that accompanies it is absolutely relevant and can be adopted by any manufacturer
I completely agree.

And to bring it back to Jaguar and the car that started it all...

Worth noting that both engine options have blowers.

The video just does not convey how great that V8 actually sounds in the real world.

That mellifluous midrange gives way to such a fantastic, hard-edged bellow above 4.5k. Seriously addictive.

I agree and why not go for a 6yr old AM V8 and £250 private plate to hide its age as a 2nd/3rd car for the sunny drive, BUT that is not what this forum is about, its about jaguar releasing a new model that will (hopefully) see them successful now and into the future......

Oh that V6. What a fabulous noise.

I love e sound of a V8, but that sounds even better.

I was swithering about getting one of these, but my desire is back again in spades.
Good on-message reply!

Not a fan of flat-plane V8's i'm afraid

Especially as far as sound goes
The Jag V8 is a bi-plane (cross-plane) V8. Always has been. Probably always will be.
AJP-V8 is flatplane

...but the Jag V8 isn't.

4.2Ltr V8 (as fitted to S-type)

The cast iron crankshaft has undercut and rolled fillets for improved strength and six counter-balance weights make sure low levels of
vibration from the four throw, five bearing configuration.

The main bearing shells are aluminium/tin split plain type. An oil groove in the top half of each bearing transfers oil into the crankshaft
oilway drillings for lubrication of the connecting rod bearings.

A lead/bronze thrust washer is fitted on each side of the top half of the center
main bearing.

The crankshaft rear oil seal is lipped and is a press fit in the interface of the bedplate to cylinder block. A torsional vibration crankshaft damper pulley is bolted to the front of the crankshaft.

It doesn't look like a flat plane crank.

The only common parts between the 4,2 and 5.0 are the exhaust valve collets.

1. Drive both and then come back and say the V6 is the pick of the range. Honestly, you'll get over the 'upset design' of the exhausts for the performance and noise. Having had V6s and V8s, there's no contest.
I would love the chance to drive both, however in my head the V6 makes more sense.

O.k getting over the fact to me it 'looks' better is a minor part the drive as you say is the main reason for one of these cars.

The V6 weighs less, does sound better in these vids, will no doubt rev more freely and id assume be the more balanced on the roads, if you ordered the V8 and the V6 with the same wheels and tyres the V6 is going to have loads more grip due to less torque and again id assume be the much more driveable on the roads, will be able to push the V6 more towards its limits without the fear of death. If they both use the same supercharger? the V6 would be more laggy at the initial revs too which again helps the grip and stability low down.

Taking price out of the equation the main competitor would have been the boxster S and considering how balanced they are to drive the Jag has a big challenge, but its gone with power (due to weight no doubt) as its main firepower and ive no complaints on that front, just hope they have done a great job on the chassis. If it sacrifices balance for laughable fun all the better for it smile

Desirable car I think some of the non standard equipment is very tight though. I think there's alot resting on this car. XJ is a sales flop, XF is starting to get old and the 4 cyl diesel engine compared to rivals is not clean enough XK is also long in the tooth. No volume model under the XF tells me jag dealers must be having a tough time. I hope this car is a success for Jag.

V8 model you pay extra for cruise with speed limiting, blind spot mirrors, DAB, heated seats, Xenon lights, parking assist, navigation electric folding mirrors the list could go on.
Believe me the XJ is not a sales flop, where did you get this info? The XF is doing very nicely too.

Regards,

My CC.

Nice though this car is, a pity it does not stand out from the crowd a bit more and had rather more E-Type look about it which was exceptionally great looking.
Nice but will go past in the traffic in a sea of other similar shapes. Not jaw dropping enough and could do with a more attractive entry level basic model price too..
