RE: You Know You Want To: Bugatti EB110 SS
Discussion
Oh yes indeedy, I've always wanted one of these!
Back in 1994, when these were the latest supercar to hit the market, I got taken for a spin through Provence in a steel grey SS (and yes it was the SS version) by the guy who had the Bugatti concession for France. I was 17 at the time and will never, ever forget the acceleration.
First time I'd ever experienced proper G-forces in the car. I'm working on memories from over 18 years ago, but my recollection is that it's a quad-turbo engine and the turbos kick in sequentially so that you get a series of thumps in the back as the car fires itself up the road.
Being only 17 and despite my freshly-minted UK driving licence, I wasn't allowed anywhere near the controls, but my father (who used to be in the Fleet Air Arm) did get to have a drive in it and afterwards remarked (i) that it was the closest thing he'd ever experienced to being catapulted off the deck of an aircraft carrier in a fighter jet and (ii) that it was a remarkably easy and friendly car to drive.

I know beauty is subjective and everything, but by the beard of Zeus those things are ugly.
Thought it was only me, looks like a 300zx has driven through Halfords covered in SuperglueThere was a thread around recently about cars with presence. Used to see an EB110 regularly on the Hethel Road near Lotus in the late 90s ... and boy did it have presence in bundles. Not pretty by any stretch but brutally efficient looking.
Would still put my spare half million (as if!) somewhere else though ...

Agreed. A severe case of "the Emperor's new clothes". Horrid thing - no wonder the customers stayed away in droves. It's the car which sank the attempted Bugatti revival by Artioli. He even bought Lotus to try to save his doomed project but that didn't work either.
Horrid to look at perhaps (looks being subjective). Not at all horrid to drive.Veryon is a much nicer looking car,the rear of this one is UGLY.also with few cars built spares for a 1990 car are not going be available and at half a million who really wants a 12 year old ugly car costing that much,in front of this car would be a F40,for me,also owners of the Veryon have sold up because of the servicing costs,up to 30k a time and 13k for a set of tyres that last 6,000 miles

School holidays already? Why the hell would someone who has just spent £1,000,000 on a car be worried about £13k for tyres or £30k on servicing? If they've got that much cash to spend on a car, I'd suggest that that months interest on the rest of their wealth will more than enough to cover the costs involved. People have sold because, well, just because. It's what happens, people buy and sell cars.

Ive always admired the EB110-SS, its a proper sports car with some equally clever engineering tucked away.
As for the looks I like them.
If I was paying that much for a car I would want it to have its own styling and stand apart instead of copying what all the other manufacturers do.
Lead from the front.
