More like a 6, I think, but still a fair difference.
Whatever Jaguar are saying, to my mind the F-type is not really a sports car. It's a mini-GT that competes more with the 911 than the Boxster.
If they have managed to make it drive like a proper sports car they could have created something exceptional. The coupe for me could make more sense (again cant afford one!) but if its a mini GT car a coupe would be the better bodyshell.Whatever Jaguar are saying, to my mind the F-type is not really a sports car. Anyways until some proper reviews are out we will have to wait and see!
If you don't like the £45k price tag then hang on, save up and buy it in 1.5/2 year's time when it will have come down to low 30's.
I personally think it's priced well against it's rivals and having driven one on road and track i think you are getting a great car for the money, especially if you don;t go tonto on the options.
Still, if i had £30k plus to burn and i wanted a perfomance car i'd still go for the BMW M135i and with the change buy an old Boxster/MX5/S2000 for my weekend roof down needs!

Looks brilliant!
Was in love with the boxster before, but the O/H decided against it because she hated the looks & interior. We went for a similar age SLK which was miles better in the interior department.
This looks a lot better, and will be great vfm in less than 10 years if you ask me.

Rather lovely, but the price makes me think it's about time Porsche looked to the VW parts bin yet again and came up with a decent 2 seater that mortals can afford from new...
They have its called a beetle cabrioBut, he's wrong, as another user pointed out, the Boxster still has the same price if you calculate inflation in it.
I have to say they are truly fantastic cars, everything about them is perfect (other than the knocking passenger side seat belt buckle!) ours is a manual and it has the sweetest gearbox ever, a nice day with the roof down on some quiet B-roads I don't think there's anything I would sooner take along for the ride.

I was being ever so slightly sarcastic. But, he's wrong, as another user pointed out, the Boxster still has the same price if you calculate inflation in it.
If a toyota GT86 is 25k plus options you cant really expect Porsche to launch a car much if any cheaper than the boxster and as you have pointed out taking inflation into account its not bad value.

WHY?????
Read the sentence in context with the rest of the post.WHY?????
If the 981 Boxster S had been on the road for 18 months to 2 years and had dropped to circa £33k i would go for it over the BMW, BUT my point at present is that the BMW is priced so competively AND having driven it and loved it, that for the time being if i had £45k in the bank i'd buy the BMW for practicality and performance and a weekend drop top with some of the change.
I thought that would be easy to deduce from my original post. I currently drive a 987 Boxster S.

actually whatcar says the S was circa 33k at launch in 99/00.
Interestingly Autocar says £42k in 1999 in their Boxster S video.Edited by danp on Thursday 3rd January 12:07
I'm inclined to go with you and trust the accurate snoozefest that is WhatCar over the typo-ridden mess that is Autocar.
