GT V6 TDi: 46

Wait a few years for prices to dip further... and to see if Renault really have improved their reliability... and I think that'd be the one to sink money into. Nice idea.
GT V6 was Coupe only wasn't it?
Not sure, but I think so. The coupé would be my choice anyway- it's a pretty car.

£8k for this? The other front page story about checking out £10k Porsche 996s comes to mind, where some PHers are showing pics of their £8k 911 purchases... having seen a mate run his Scenic I believe the running costs are comparable between a Laguna and one!
I could have run a 996, or similar quite comfortably for 12 months for what my 2004 Scenic cost me in its first year out of warranty.

Even if Renault's products are better these days what about the company? In my experience, Renault and its dealer network are among the most miserable and unhelpful example of "customer service" that I have ever experienced. They simply do not stand by their products, return phone calls, or empathise in any meaningful way with their customers. At least that was the case just four years ago.

There really IS something about Renault. I think it's called "character" .... and it seems to be absent from Ford and Vauxhall - even VW.
I have only ever owned two Renaults ..... an elderly Renault 5 1.3 that I had "between cars" ..... and a new Clio Si 1.4 that I bought in 2000.
The "5" was an absolute hoot .... surprisingly nippy ... leaned everywhere .... but SO much fun!
The Clio Si was arguably one of the world's best kept secrets. A quick rack, sports suspension, alloys, aircon, CD, oil level indicator on the dash (yes really!). Fantastically well equipped for such a tiny eurobox, sub 10 secs 0-60 (just) and all with Group 5 insurance! Tremendous package ... and I don't think I've ever had more fun in a car in day to day driving. (OK I lied ... I have had an S1 Elise for 14 years and that takes the prize).
The point is both the Renaults might not have had perfect build quality but they had CHARACTER in spades!

I have by choice run a Renault Safrane 2.5 for 11 years now. Unbelieveably reliable, well built, lovely to drive. It rarely gets much love but just goes on and on and on. I pick it every time ahead of various other cars that I have access too (2 x classic supercars, a Jag X-type, Volvo S60). It does everything so well and never gives a spot of trouble. I had an R25 before too which was another great car and had done 200k miles when I sold that. I think Renault quite rightly got a reputation for some god-awful cars in the early 2000's but earlier and later stuff seems to be much better (especially when you go higher in the range). The 4 year warranty on newer cars now seems to suggest they have a little faith in new stuff too.

A guy at work will love you, he has a red Safrane and one of only a few ever built a 25 V6 turbo in white, he has spent fortunes on both getting them mint and even having original window stickers and number plates made up for each one, to say his anal is an understatement.

As opposed to predominantly selling bland euroboxes then?
