Without reading all the Audi hate, I can honestly say that the worst/most aggressive drivers in Guildford are Passat estate drivers. They are closely followed by Audi estate drivers and then van drivers.

The Passat and Audi estate drivers around here have such a reputation that I would never consider owning one.

The only problem now is what do I buy if 4wd and a big boot are required without being a massive off roader? Everything points to Audi A3 Sportback....

The bit about who crashes the most versus who gets caught exceeding our stupidly low (and ever lower) limits has been known for years from previous studies.

The fact that the drivers caught least exceeding speed limits (the under 25s - and the elderly in fact) are those most involved in accidents. The safer drivers, i.e. those caught exceeding limits the most are in the middle age group. Therefore, speed control is not the answer to safety - that hasn't changed and that's why the speed control lobby will always lose their arguments when trying to justify their revenue-based industry.

Hang on, does that not mean that the age group least likely to crash is the one most likely to speed?
Good comment, does any one have the stats that show how many accidents are caused by speeding?

Are you serious?

What do you do in Guildford - have local residents meetings to discuss the specific driving styles of each car make/owner & model? Has there been a local survey conducted? Are you speaking for the whole of Guildford, or is this Passat & Audi estate "reputation" perhaps just based on your own opinion? Which you are more than entitled to, I just don't see how two individual car makes & models get a local "reputation" confused

I better watch how I drive if I ever visit Guildford in my Audi A5 (bring on the hate), but at least it's not an estate.

I was aware of all the Audi /Clarkson / Urban Myth hatred before I got my A5 - did it put me off? Not a jot, it's a great car & I like it - thats all that matters to me.

If you drive like an idiot, it's because you are an idiot....irrespective of the vehicle you happen to be driving.

I like playing with 335d drivers, quite funny seeing the big puff of diesel smoke as they try to confirm their directorship! biggrin

So if Saab's are for people who design houses, what is the car that IT folk are assumed to drive?

I sadly do not have a goatee nor an Audi, and am under 6ft and not a powerfully built director, just a powerfully built manager

Well that's a strange one. What's the editorial line that publishes a rather lame article about a pretty dumb survey on a price comparison website, that implicitly denigrates a proportion of the contributors to PHeads? What next? Rich people have more expensive shoes shock? People who drive more miles (Ops Directors for example) commit more driving offences? Does the pope st in the woods?

I hadn't realised that Pheads was primarily a youth forum, the motoring equivalent of BBC4, I thought it was for all people who liked turning hydro-carbons into momentum. I shall go out and buy a hoodie, pull my trousers down to disply my pants and put a silly sticker on the back of my car inviting the police to stop me so I can keep contributing.

Did you really mean BBC4? Maybe BBC3? Or, more likely, ITV2?

So correct me If i'm wrong, what this is telling me is that people that typically earn more than others have better cars that cost more to purchase and run? SHOCKING!!

Thank goodness for that. I thought I'd completely misunderstood my favourite channel (4, that is, not 3).

On a similar theme Pramface is good, too.

Lots of good tv in fact, sadly with a lot of not so good stuff. It certainly isn't BBC4, if considerably better than ITVx.

I find the worst culprits for speeding on motorways and general poor driving standards are the green brigade - drive a (so-called) green car so you can still afford to drive like a tt. It must make them feel all self-righteous tanking along in their Prius at 95 in the outside lane of an empty motorway.

Just trying to divert the attention away from us helpless victimised Audi drivers.

Yours,

Self-employed, not powerfully-built, RS4 driver/owner.

There should be a competition to find the "most sterotypical PH" bloke. Points awarded for height, size, posts, directorships, sports cars etc.

The winner gets to have free reign over the PH pool cars, and cans of red bulls.

Well I have a Saab but I don't design houses. But I am a director (not powerfully-built) of an IT firm and I also have a new Audi something-or-other. However, it is so unengaging to drive that I actually prefer driving the Saab (or even my old W124 Merc).

Also to be found shaving mid morning with a cut throat using only custard as foam, while smoking a nice cigar and glass of chianti on the side of the basin. Thinking about popping into work in the Arnage just before lunch for a quick chat and a dram. The afternoon is a quick surf on PH and leaving before dark to go home and tell the children off biggrin

I wish biggrin

Should have said I meant the stereotype that certain jobs means you drive a certain car.

I have a BMW M5, never owned an Audi either!
