The brake lights are actually flashing, its not that effect your often see from LED's when filmed at faster frame rates. A lot of newer cars do this now when you stamp on the brakes hard enough, noticed it on quite a few BMWs and Mercs last time I was at the ring.
Yep, its basically a warning of very heavy braking, alot of new cars do this now

Indeed. Looks like actual flashing under hard braking, rather than the aliasing effect.

What about the one fitted to the 962 as far back as what, 1986?
I love the way that people bang on about how 'proper' cars must have a manual as it gives more control, offers more involvement or even better, is more fun.

Another new car, another bit of progress. Technology enables the user to get more from the product.

What's with the flashing brake lights? Is that to show strong / heavy braking for the drivers behind - didn't seem to be cadence braking?
cadence clutching I believe.

Exactly - technical progress introduces different ways of achieving the same ends, it doesn't necessarily equate to a poorer experience. Remember Henry Ford's comment - if he had asked people how he could improve personal transportation, they would have asked for a faster horse!. So comments like they really 'fked up this time' might seem amusingly luddite like in a few years time.

And this from a 993 owner!

And I bet it does. No one screams bloody-murder at a Ferrari 458 or 430 Scuderia having a double-clutch box...
well they do a bit but evidently haven't driven one. there's nothing wrong with a pdk with the right engine imho... its awesome.

What a load if balls. Porsche was an engineer, he'd see pdk as an efficient way to be quicker and therefore better than his rivals.
I bet it's a fab car, and i equally bet loads of forum types will hate it for having the wrong type of power steering or whatever - most of whom will drive cars equally full of tech, not caterhams.

And now the proper Porsches arrive, perhaps we will hear less of the more mundane 991.

Ferdinand Porsche would be turning in his grave if he knew that the mainstay Porsche was STUCK with the engine on the wrong side of the rear axle... (356 would have been a middie if costs hadn't ruled that plan out).

Auto Union racers (Porsche designed and mid engined) were using Pre-selectors (and PDK is a pre-selector) in the 30's so cannot see why he would object to racing tech filtering down to the shouty road models after 70-odd years.

I don't know about Ferdinand Sr. rolling in his grave,

but I do know about his son, Ferry, Ferdinand Jr..

Ferry wouldn't care about PDK, but he'd be rolling in his grave

over the bloated abomination called the Panameradingdong.

"... from the onset only sports cars have been manufactured under the Porsche name, and this will always be the case." - Ferry Porsche, 1980

Now regarding the GT3, the lack of a real motorsport engine and PDK only, would mean that the GT3 will be a pointless exercise and a huge mistake. Why in the WORLD would the enthusiast driver order one and pay that premium when they can just by a Carrera S? Just buy the "Powerkit" and the "aerodynamic kit" and GT3 can't offer anything significant beyond that. How sad. They also need to fix the electric steering problem. It's already been widely reported that the C4 has good feel that the C2 now lacks. That needs to be fixed. The GT3 is supposed to be the real driver's 911. It appears that the C4 with a powerkit (and maybe the aero kit) and the manual transmission will be the real driver's 911.

Let's be realistic for just a moment-

It will be quicker than the outgoing model.
It will be easier to drive at the limit than the outgoing model
It will sell as many as they can make

The gt3 cup will be a successful series
The race versions will remain competitive in the various championships

The comment about not having a motorsport engine? Why would it carry on using what is now a very old lump, that reached its logical conclusion in the last series model?

I realise that everyone loves rose tinted specs, but come on. A few comments regarding the new steering being no good? Relative to what? People believing all they read about a car they most likely haven't driven.

This ^^

Well put. I'm warming to the 991, and this only brings me closer to a purchase desire.

Maybe next year when i'm in the US and cars there cost 20% less than UK...
