I have a 1.4 manual Kia Rio, 2010 with 13500 miles on the clock. It's been at a Kia dealer for a week now having a fault diagnosed - there is a rattle/grinding noise when reversing.

Original diagnosis was that the reverse idler gear was faulty, so they replaced it. Then found that the reverse gear itself was damaged, so replaced that too.

Rebuilt the gearbox and road tested the car and the fault is still present yikes

Anyone heard of similar problems with this model? I know it's not exactly the most PH of cars so I don't need pages of abuse for the crap car I drive hehe

Getting a bit worried that they're not going to be able to find the fault and wonder what will happen next if they can't too scratchchin

Any other unusual behaviour from the box? Difficult to say what else it could be if they've had a good rummage through the box.

No other unusual behaviour from the box at all - it drives perfectly in all forward gears.

Aparrently the box is going to be stripped and rebuilt again with further replacement parts although it's awaiting approval from Kia UK at the moment...
