Would be great to have a modern version (other than ROC), perhaps utilising 911GT3 Cup cars or something similar
Agree smile
Not as diverse a field of drivers but there was a race series using the Mercedes 190 Cosworth in 1984, won by a young Ayrton Senns

I remember seeing Denny Hulmes 911 IROC @ Goodwood some years back. I was in heaven, especially seeing as I'm a Kiwi & Denny flew the flag rather well for little old NZ (along with Chris & Bruce, of course).

I'd buy that car in half a heartbeat, if I had the spare folding stuff.

Is that Pink 911 a 964 variety Base Carrera ? Looks really good and the body kit really suits - is that one silly money or sub 996 Turbo money

any tips on how to get the other half to agree to having motorsports posters hung in the house?

i took all my framed porsche ones down from the garage after i sold the last 911 & they're currently residing in the loft rolleyes

i've had my eye on the downstairs lav but it's a no-go apparently & i'm out of space in the office hehe
My whole house is covered in motorsport artwork. It's only because I bought the house before SWMBO moved in. Now I can only hang more pictures in my office and that's pretty much full. Only one thing for it: buy a bigger house.

No, it's a 964RS. They were about £25k 10 years ago....now between £60-£80k.

Some sanity please-it ain't pretty to my eyes,it's just an old stuttgarter, unless your planning to go to Speed week in Bonneville or have yourself a one car series it's poor value! For half a million quid you could buy a winters home somewhere nice, instead of suffering creaking bones on this wet windy cold island stuck in the north sea. Classic cars are the new south sea bubble, and you should never put your money in a dying technology, which petrol driven cars are. Better to have a picture of it in your loo and keep the money for personal needs and an old 911 should never be worth half a million, find a sucker willing to pay that, better to have a new Singer for a tenth of that. I had one, sold it at it's best, and never looked back. Enjoyment motoring is dying hence the success of brain games like Gran Turismo, and track days and as for supercars in Knightsbridge-we need a new thread here Garlick. The Old Fart says hello and no mendacity please-it's just my humble opinion.

I imagine the buyer would have the home there elsewhere and one to spare. Then buy this for some historic fun at the weekend.
As they always say they are worth what people will pay.

But if you have the money, then why not? The issue in everyone's posts seems to be 'why is it so expensive?!', but this isn't a thing for normal people, it's a rich man's toy that will hopefully get used properly instead of mothballed. In my mind, the same goes for all indulgence cars, and if you sold yours because it was getting prohibitively expensive then that's fair enough.

Also, where the balls are you getting a new Singer for £50,000?! That's mendacity.

I know the chap that had that from New, he went on to have a RHD 993RSR and a RHD 964 Turbo S as well.

Yeah, probably smile

Denny was indeed an utter legend. I have quite a bit of his old stuff scattered about, and Chris and Bruce's stuff, too. smile

1. There are many, many events available now for owners of recognised classic cars. This will get you entry to Rennsport and any number of Chateau tours. You can't say the same for offshore accounts or bits of art. There's also plenty of ad-hoc 'enjoyment motoring' to be had, should you be bothered get out of the M25 area at rush hours.

2. Old 'Stuttgaters' are still much cheaper than old Ferraris. Any 250 with a good history is >$3m

3. While the prices are up, there is little sign of the overheated, credit fueled boom of the late 80s, where annual increases on some cars were 200% and people were buying brand new Ferraris and 930s for 2x list

4. Old 911s have been selling for this money for years already. And I'll have all the £50k Singers you have please. However in the real world these are >$250k

5. For most people a home in the sun is a liability they might use for a few weeks a year

6. As for 'dying technology', well the oil won't run out. It'll be used for leisure, not millions of daily drivers. Just as folks still ride horses or value steamtrains. Even if it does 'run out' (or at least get very expensive), mankind is clever enough to make alternatives for use in vehicles/boats etc.

IMHO of course.
