The irony being it will end up used as a minicab by someone trying to avoid the index.

I think circa 170bhp is a tad underpowered in a barge of such proportions...
It's only the weight of the same age BMW 5 series

I had a 3.7 one on a P plate, both my services cost more than this one!!! They eat front suspension bushes and electrics when they go wrong are very expensive, just about everything is routed through the ECU. Great car when it worked!
With all the aluminium in the A8 it weights well over 200 kgs less than a similar vintage 728i

My 1999 Audi 2.7 V6 sounds amazing (best sounding car I've had).

One months MoT would worry me with a car like this.
Agree with this. Potential big bills coming up MOT time and the seller wants to get rid.

Great car. As a few have said, the earlier A8 2.8s would have had the same 174 BHP as my Dad's J-reg 100 2.8E did, then it was the next generation A6 (arrived UK May 1997) and later A8s that would have had the 193 BHP. A few years later the VW Golf 4Motion inherited the engine but the BHP was increased to 204 BHP.

That's fair enough, so I suppose it would be nigh on same in terms of performance?

Still, I do love a creamy 2.8 litre M52 engine! Silky smooth.

Most people who say electrics and suspension issues will cost lots..... there's lots of forums around to keep diagnosis costs low and parts supply/costs seems very good

(My Passat of a similar year is known for electrical and front suspension failures and both have cost me less than £100 in the last year, ok I have a bit of vag-com (laptop) knowledge which would be essential for owning one of these)

Thanks McSam smile

I've only driven 5 cylinder NA Audis and the 3 litre 30V in an A4 B6, where it seemed to like a drink considering I was taking it easy.
You should have tried my 2.6 12v A4.. a 1280kg car with 150bhp, and the result was.... 26mpg.
I had a 1996 Audi A4 2.6 and economy wasn't its strong point! 32mpg at 65mph frown I didn't ever work it out based upon local short journeys as I suspect the answer would be depressing! Was a good cruiser though.

The early A8 2.8 had two valves per cylinder, 174bhp. They soon went to five valve per cylinder and 193bhp. The multivalve engines sound much more sporty than the two valves which didn't really rev hard at all.

extra room only for the rear..... shame I don't fit behind the steering wheel at 6ft 4!! (I can't touch the pedals in an A8 with the seat fully back!)

Completely different engines - the Golf used a development of the VR6 engine whilst the Audi one is a conventional V6.

That's beautiful. A proper Jag.

The quality of interior, however, will be nowhere near that of the A8.

But, nothing wafts quite like an old XJ !

That is a very good point.

I've also found, that for the size of the car, there is limited leg room for both front and rear passengers in an XJ.

The 100 shape A6 (C4) got the 30V 2.8 from Dec. '95.

The 30V ones have '5V' on the cam covers.

You can't say the same for the A8...you could have held a social gathering in the back of the one I had biggrin I'd imagine it'd be a doggers dream car.

I have one of these.

2.8 30v, all the toys work, 178k, full Audi service history, cambelt change etc.

12 month MOT all for a "Brewer Stylee" Bag of Sand biggrin

Excellent Motorway wafter and does 33mpg average. Not slow either so suits me fine.

Hopefully, the MOT due this April won't throw up too much and I'll be good for another year.
