Yes yet another rant about those lycraclad luddites.

I briefly parked my car on some Yellow lines along a one-way street. Whilst standing across the other side of the street talking to several friends, a troop of Wiggo's cycling up the street the wrong way swerving round my car whilst visibly showing their annoyance at this to each other. A straggler arrived about a minute later unaware of myself or my friends. Cycled into the front of the car deliberately, dismounted turned his bike side on and rammed it against the front of the car. Re-mounted cycled round the side of the car and gave it a good kick and pulled back to do so again When I interrupted him with an shout of "Oi,No" (not the best I know) he gesticulated, gave a torrent of the Queens finest, when I started to walk over (in a non-threatening manner) he cycled off.

What the hell gives this muppet the right to think he can damage someone elses property with impunity? If a dog walked across his path would it be reasonable to kick it? If his bike is padlocked to a lampost and is in my way should I respond in kind? No.
What the hell is wrong with these people?

He has cracked and split my numberplate (just replaced) and scratched the passenger door where he kicked it. Ill give it a buff of course wink but its pretty deep.
Grrrr

That's outrageous. Sounds like you did well to keep your temper (I'm not a violent person but if I saw someone do that to my car I would have probably snapped.)

Terrible if true, but the whole story seems rather far-fetched and implausible.

Can't imagine anyone would be that mental afterall.

rammed bike against front of car hard enough to cause damage & then rode away .... seems unlikely to me .... not worth the risk of damaging bike as surely that would buckle wheel?

Presumably you've reported this vandalism/criminal damage to the police... It sounds like a club ride so should be fairly easy to narrow down the perpetrator.

However, why is this a moan about cyclists rather than just a moan about idiots? Does the fact he was a cyclist have anything to do with his behaviour? It'd be like tarring all drivers with the same brush because you see one driver exhibit some stupid road rage.

It does all sound rather far-fetched...

Sounds like a right idiot I'd of thumped him if he clearly wanted to kick the crap out of my car.

However, wiggo stereotype cyclists don't usually kick or thump in other things as what would happen to our carbon wheels and frames. Sounds like you met upon a bunch of tosspots looking for trouble.

off duty parking warden reminding you of yellow line in ways they wouldn't do in uniform perhaps?

Correct it is better aimed at idiots than cyclists, perhaps the thread title could be changed into a more general moan? I agree it may sound far fetched but its true I am stunned. The whole incident took place very qucikly I think my shock at what I was seeing slowed my reactions somewhat.

To be fair, even as a road cyclist myself, the guys behavior is completely ridiculous. Before this descends into the usual can we just say the usual disclaimer - there are idiots who ride bikes, and idiots who drive cars. Not all cyclists are idiots (indeed, there are many of us with petrol in our veins!) and not all motorists are idiots.

if it was doubles people get very frustrated by it but damaging a car is not the answer.

This particular cyclist must be slow in the head. Almost certain he damaged his bike more than your car if it makes you feel any better.

Maps.google.co.uk and then use the link function, then we can have a look at the scene?

Can cycle lanes go against the flow of traffic? The op did admit he was parked illegally.
