Another cyclist rant/moan
Discussion
My previous sympathy has evaporated after the op admitted to blocking a cycle lane and probably forcing bikes out into the flow of oncoming traffic
It really gets boring when planners make safe provision for bikes which selfish types ignore as they can't be bothered to park properly
I can't condone the vandalism but I do understand

I was silly enough to park briefly on double yellows, this in no way warrants a tt vandalising my car when he believes no one is looking for a very minor slight to his day.
Unfortunately, if he hadn't punished you, you would probably have done it again. You just need to learn from this and move on. If you don't show any consideration for others, they won't show any to you.(Unless you want to risk it happening again)

For a cyclist (or anyone) is a car or van parked there ( for loading or not) that much different to cars parked further along the street?

I'm a fairly committed cyclist, but I'm not going to kick some blokes car for blocking the cycle path. Many times in my car I'm blocked by a delivery van or similar stopped in the street which causes me to stop (blame London for that) but I don't get out and attack them/ their vehicle.
Why should a cyclist react differently? Probably because they know they can make a decent escape on a bicycle...Violence is not the way to deal with things, and if you choose to use that method then expect to get some form of retaliation or prosecuted.
I don't want to be injured as I cycle home tonight, but neither do I go looking for trouble as I ride.

I may be reading too much into the previous post, but I read it as 'understanding' - as in comprehending, rather than 'being understanding' - as in having sympathy for.I'm a fairly committed cyclist, but I'm not going to kick some blokes car for blocking the cycle path. While the action of the cyclist was clearly unreasonable, we have to make allowances for the fact that not one of us here can truthfully claim to be reasonable all the time. In that way I understand the cyclist's actions too - the OP may just have been the 27th person to piss him off that day. The only sure fire way of avoiding bearing the brunt of that circumstance is to not do the (arguably dangerous, definitely illegal) thing that has sent them over the edge.

Exactly, what these tree hugging woofters are doing on a motoring website is beyond me
I hear that five of the tree-hugging woofters run this bloody site. Garlick, Pheedbak, Matt Dell, Stuart and Dan Trent all cycle to the PH office fairly regularly and ride for fun after hours too. Unbelievable eh? They should all be sacked...or maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge?
But, we wouldn't damage any cars and we are all very nice folk.

Yes I know but thats only for the foot or two from the mini roundabout. Theres no cycle lane in the road where the van is parked and no indication of any lane there - as there isnt.I was just countering people saying the OP/van was blocking a cycle lane.
It's just a normal van temporarily parked up on double yellows.
See here

no indication of a cycle lane at all - only a cycle parked up slightly blocking the pavement
