i've said it before and i'll kee saying it, it's time bicycles had an accountability on par with other road users. fking number plate the lot of them.
I've heard of pram and wheelchair users damaging cars which park on the footpath, perhaps they need number plates too? And old people. Numberplates for old people.

Would it make any difference to your position if he was?

yes, if the damage was caused by wheelchair users or prams having to get past that would otherwise have to go onto the road and put themselves in danger. some zentai wearing a plastic fking hat kicking your car if it's parked ON THE ROAD which they can still get round safely is different.

So you only want vandalism of illegally parked cars by cyclists to be dealt with by number plates - anyone else is different?

i'll try and make this as black and white as i can.

if you use the road with a vehicle and you damage another vehicle or injure another road user either by accident or design you should be accountable. accountability in the first instance is best attached by a unique form of registration for every vehicle which travels on the road. this identity should be clearly viewable to all in case, for example, someone decides they don't want to stop or through aggression or intimidation refuses to give their details.

and make em pay road tax.
not sure if serious, but i would have no problem with that.
The "tax" we pay as car owners is a duty on emissions. A bicycle has no such emission so pays no duty (tax).

OP, don't park on double yellow lines blocking the road/pavement/cycle path and your car won't get damaged. 2 wrongs don't make a right and all that lot, but it does wind people up. Maybe you should have posted this in the bad parking thread?

But it is based on emissions. No emissions, no tax smile.

we're told it is based on emissions this week. once everyone goes to electric cars or fairy dust cars or whatnot they'll call it something else.

twas ever thus.

No, but the rider (the bicycle's engine) emits carbon dioxide from one end and filthy air/methane/st particles from the other.

I understand and accept I was parked on the yellow's by way of explanation as we can see in the photos heading up the lane there is no indication that there is a cycle lane where I parked. I imagine quite a lot of us have at one point or another parked on a double yellow briefly for various reasons. Of course, I should not have parked there but some signage would aid the situation.

It is a poor place for a cycle lane, alongside a series of houses with driveways and no clear indication a cycleway flowing against traffic on their doorstep. Some Red tarmac or at least a demarcated cycle lane would aid in this.

Being 'wound up' in no way justifies criminal damage.
If I were a more aggressive character this could have escalated. I was silly enough to park briefly on double yellows, this in no way warrants a tt vandalising my car when he believes no one is looking for a very minor slight to his day.

Based on their emission output? Seems like the fairest way to calculate it?

Can cycle lanes go against the flow of traffic? The op did admit he was parked illegally.
They would need a flashing amber light to do so.

Bloke sounds like a dhead, certainly there is NEVER a need to damage anyones property.

Something odd happened to me today, group of us riding, two a breast, quite tight, on a straight road through somewhere near Windsor (laleham maybe?) anyway, this bloke overtakes us, (breaking the speed limit I'd imagine) I thought nothing of it, he gets about 10 feet in-front of me, then he puts his indicator on (odd given what he was about to do) and slams his brakes on to go from 30 mph to 5, and turns into his driveway (I've gone round him) I turn round to call him a fking for overtaking us only to turn off straight away and nearly cause an accident in the process, and he's foaming at the mouth giving the wker sign etc, I just don't understand some people at all. It was a totally pointless maneuver and it was a sleepy little place on a Sunday Morning, what was he playing at!

In some ways it's a similar argument
If you were cycling two abreast without due care for other road users he might well have been a bit uppety.
However theres nothing saying he cant pass you, signal, slow down and turn into his driveway - all with a similar due care. If he slammed on his brakes that not really due care either.

I take it he was turning left into driveway and you passed him on the right.

No need for the language or getting uppety on either side
