When does it recommend it?
Well wrong word, but says not more than 2 abreast unless on busy roads (which it isn't)Cyclists are allowed to ride two abreast but that doesnt mean cyclists should do it when its not useful to other road users
Otherwise we could invoke other rules. As pedestrians we're allowed to walk anwhere in the road but due care for other road users means it's beneficial to keep to one side

You should
never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends
be considerate of other road users, particularly blind and partially sighted pedestrians

Two a breast is what the highway code recommends.

I constantly meet drivers who do not know this and think that riding 2 a breast is not allowed at all.

The "tax" we pay as car owners is a duty on emissions. A bicycle has no such emission so pays no duty (tax).
OP, don't park on double yellow lines blocking the road/pavement/cycle path and your car won't get damaged. 2 wrongs don't make a right and all that lot, but it does wind people up. Maybe you should have posted this in the bad parking thread?
I understand and accept I was parked on the yellow's by way of explanation as we can see in the photos heading up the lane there is no indication that there is a cycle lane where I parked. I imagine quite a lot of us have at one point or another parked on a double yellow briefly for various reasons. Of course, I should not have parked there but some signage would aid the situation.OP, don't park on double yellow lines blocking the road/pavement/cycle path and your car won't get damaged. 2 wrongs don't make a right and all that lot, but it does wind people up. It is a poor place for a cycle lane, alongside a series of houses with driveways and no clear indication a cycleway flowing against traffic on their doorstep. Some Red tarmac or at least a demarcated cycle lane would aid in this.
Being 'wound up' in no way justifies criminal damage.
If I were a more aggressive character this could have escalated. I was silly enough to park briefly on double yellows, this in no way warrants a tt vandalising my car when he believes no one is looking for a very minor slight to his day.

As said above it is allowed but like everything else on the road, subject to being 'considerate' I am sure the vast majority of other cyclists are the same.

Sorry to be pedantic but OP never specified whether he was loading and therefore entitled to stop on the double yellows.
I see the usual antagonist mob have waded in and of course there are 2 sides to every story but damaging someone's property because they are causing you to have to cycle round them and increase your total travel by circa 5 metres is buffonary of the highest order.

You guys, especially the OP all need to chill out a bit for heavens sake. I mean a tiny, almost invisible scratch to your front bumper and you come on here trying to stir up a frenzy. Please grow up!
I'm a keen cyclist, but I'm also a petrolhead with a passion for fast cars and driving quickly. Often these passions combine when I take my MTB for a spin to the Lakes, Wales or similar where the winding roads to get there also happen to be part of the fun day out.
I really can't understand the small minded attitude shown towards cyclists by a stupid minority on this site. Yes some cyclists are idiots but so what. There are idiots in all walks of life but we don't come on here ranting and raving do we?
I've never had a problem with cyclists, in fact the more cyclists on the road, the less cars, so that means that if I'm driving then I can get to my destination quicker. In 20 years of driving I've never had a problem being held up by cyclists. Sure, you may have to wait behind one for a minute or so until there's a safe place to pass but so what? It's all part of life on the road. There are other things that hold me up too, caravans, traffic lights, roadworks, tractors etc. If you can't deal with these things in a safe and rational manner then you either need to go on an anger management course or perhaps consider giving up driving for the sake and safety of all of us.

Agreed - the OP did consider thing rationally and avoided getting involved. From the account the cyclist got very angryGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
