had a moron attempt to block me from merging at a merge-in-turn spot..

i think he got upset that i just cruised up the empty lane whilse he allowed himself to que up.

he spend a few mins driving up along side me and swerving at me trying to intimidate me with his powerful-director type car.

but i just looked at him non-plussed and carried on holding my line..

as far as im concerned.. whatever happens whilst I hold my line happens

My car is worth less than one of his jags tyres, so i really dont give a flying what he does. I just cruised on home whilst he will probably need a triple bypass soon if he keeps getting himself this stressed out!

I've stopped with the polite gestures and just pass them whichever side is free. By the time they've woken up, if they do at all, you're past them. I used to see this sort of behaviour on a daily basis, now it's once in a blue moon. Giving that sort of person an awareness of the situation they've created and precious seconds to think about how they can exact their revenge on you probably isn't desirable.
Agreed, but speaking from a nasty experience, I'd rather make sure the driver is aware of my presence rather than risk slipping past, only to have the door closed on me.

Be honest, was it really a merge spot or were you just in the wrong lane?

I must admit I do get annoyed at drivers that coast up the wrong lane then try and cut in a queue.

Small story (bro) of my own, I was cruising down the M1 the other night in the left lane doing 70, it was clear in front.

I happened upon a car in the middle lane (of course) doing 60.

There were no other cars in the vicinity, so I did a mental shrug and just stayed in my lane until I undertook him.

Approximately 5 seconds later he wakes up, charges past me doing 90 (or therabouts), then pulls into the left lane front of me, resuming his 60mph.

Im then forced to pull out into the middle lane for a standard overtake. He does not react in any way to this.

Did I do something wrong here or was that just odd behaviour from the other driver?

I wish they'd just do a public information campaign on overtaking because I think a lot of people consider it irresponsible or inconsiderate driving to overtake, when in fact it is nothing of the sort.
I think that's the nub of it. My in-laws (both mid-60s) have NEVER overtaken anyone. Ever. Not on a single lane road. Apparently "it's dangerous and should be illegal".

I was always told the classic "I'd rather have an idiot in front of me than behind me" and that also applies to driving biggrin

Indeed.. middle aged powerful director type.

But when director meets shedder... shedder always wins hehe

My theory? Personal space. Very few drivers seem to give themselves any space on the road. They are in their lane, it is their "right" to be there, no consideration is given to any journey other than their own.

My car was faster than his. I knew that once past I could easily extend the distance between us and escape from further possible conflict.
Unless the roads are pretty much empty in my view the driver who makes the most progress will be the one prepared to take the most risks rather than one with the faster car.
