Pays to take these things with a pinch of salt. My ML63 AMG is supposed to get a combined 18MPG, reality is it seldom sees double figures.

As for the new pics of the C7 on the road, to say I'm smitten would be somewhat of an understatement. Can't wait.

I'm not comparing them to anything, just saying it's an impressive standalone figure. US EPA combined figure for the SLK is 22mpg, C6 auto is 18mpg, the manual 19mpg. I'd expect the C7 to better that so maybe it'll match or better the SLK. I'm not Merc fanboy, I was just pointing out that there are other NA V8s there than can better the Corvette for economy.

The Monaro was not broken, the official figure was 19mpg I think and I did a lot of town driving. It would see high 20s on a long motorway run. For comparison the Octavia vRS I had afterwards was supposed to average 37mpg and I got 31mpg, current Z4 3.0si official is 31 and I get 27.
No worries smile it just sounded like you where suggesting the Merc would do 32-33mpg under the same conditions that your Monaro gets 15mpg.

Nice collection of toys you have there.

GIT!

wink
Thanks mate, the ML goes to a new home next week.
Gladly trade for a while - I'll assume it's the Kia you're most fond of as the green and gold paint job is sublime ( hehe ), so if you fancy swapping it with your C6 for a month just drop me a pm biggrin

Dont worry, the big diesel V8 in the ML rarely makes it into the 20s on anything less than an A road. My hefty right foot might have something to do with that though!

I really want to hire a Raptor for a driving holiday in California/Nevada later this year but it doesn't look like anyone does them.

I wanted to hire something good out there later this year but because we're collecting in one state and dropping off at another with a st load of miles in between our choices are really limited.

Will probably end up with a Chevy Tahoe or similar but a Raptor would be so much fun on death valley dirt roads.

Close. We've ended up with an equinox

The next plan was to hire a sports bike for a couple of days so I could go for a blast with a friend that's moved out there. Unfortunately there 's only Harley's available around the twisting roads of Sedona, ironically the hire company does do sports bikes out of their NY city branch!!

Indeed but the SLK still beats the (C6) Corvette on EPA, albeit only just.
Why on earth are you arguing over SLK vs 'vette? Entirely different beasts and the definition of head or heart purchasing.

EFA.

PistonHeads - MPG matters (more than the cars themselves).
