I have a 1997 VW Polo 1.4 6n i call it Marco i paid £250 on Ebay for it 2.5 years ago as a year round daily runner. It was lowered running 14" Pirelli P slots i even got the AA to collect it ! i did a full service with timing belt water pump, swapped out the front seats for mk3 Golf Gti seats which bolt straight in, bolted front and rear strut braces on I've since done nearly 25k in it i bought it to keep my Supercharged Audi A4 V6 30v off the road. I took the Audi out for a few miles at the weekend and got caught by a gritting lorry which pelted the car as it went past, i pulled up as soon as i could to check it hadn't chipped the paint i immediately thought i wish i was in the Polo instead. Thats the beauty of a shed at this time of year it also shows the Audi how to go round roundabouts at legal speeds and yet make it feel illegal !

The absolute best bit about shedding is not giving a st about paintwork etc.

I make a point of finding people who've parked their 'clearly upto their neck in credit' wagons badly in supermarket carparks - and park RIGHT next to them (perfectly within the space of course).

Ideally I stay in the car to watch the fun but even if I'm in the shop, I know I'm pissing someone off and that's a lovely feeling...

You can ever terrifying oncoming drivers who are lazy about indicating or greedy about road space - their mirror costs £250 because it's heated and got indicators in it - mine costs nothing as I have a few spares anyway smile

It's all part of my plan to eventually just drive a V8 pickup with reinforced front-and-rear - and flamethrowers...

I have a £500 Saab 9-5, does the job and at the moment I have no idea what I'll replace it with. Been thinking about a E38 BMW but the Saab does everything I need and it's disposable.

And surely one of the best bits about shedding is bit where you fix a £300 quid dealer sting for pennies because some lovely bloke on the internet has trumped his mate my writing the most perfect step by step guide to replacing whatever is broken!
Alternator replacement on a mk4 golf? I actually did it quicker than author did the 2nd time thanks to his photo guide. (30 quid part) .Tweaking the resistor in the laser unit of a BMW 740 CD auto changer to overcome skipping...ta...(free)
Got to love the Internet...

Most reliable shed though is still Saab for me,,,BMW's require a bit of this and that but I don't care because they are so easy to work on. Top marks for anyone though who truly embraces shed and gets it through 3 consecutive MOT's without a jot of work...that's true shedding.

my first car was a polo 6n2, paid £60 for it (scrap value at time)as the owner was quoted £600 to get it through an MOT, it cost me about £150 to get it through two consecutive MOT's. was so much better than any of my mates cars, park it anywhere, practise clutchless shifting, fill it full of muddy mountain bikes.

to top it off is sold it for £400. shedding rules smile

I love my shed - MERC 1999 SLK 230K
wouldn't normally be on my shopping list but this was too good to turn away
1 year of ownership cost so far 2 new tyres and an indicator bulb - that was an advisory on the MOT as the bulb was going a bit white -
Everything works and although soft and Slug LiKe (is that what SLK is an abbreviation for ;-) I've grown to love it and would miss it if it went
use it every day on work commute.
I find I have much more fun in cheap cars than more expensive one as I have less to lose I suppose.
Sheds are the way forward

Not really a Shed though is it, not unless your other car is something VERY special indeed!

Here's mine, recently bought for £1.1k.

She's a 5 door Zetec 1.8 TDDI, very tidy and drives well. As far as A-B motoring goes you just don't need to spend any more do you, it does all the things a commuter/shopping car needs to do. Could've done say £5k on something but couldn't get excited about spending good money on a 5 door diesel hatchback.

Reading about these old pugs makes me wanna cry! Where oh where did it go wrong for Peugeot? These old 405s, 306s, 205s etc drive so well and just go on and on

Who can see a 307/308/208 being cherished as a shed in 15 years time?

The ride quality on old Pugs is wonderful, James May is so right, all this obsession with the nurburgring and track days has ruined the way normal cars drive on the road. Do you really need anything more than 15 inch wheels for every day driving?

In 15 years time the 307, 308 and 208 will be completely extinct due to been recyled into something else. DPF issues and about 1500 other faults will ensure that.

As for ride quality - yup going in the wrong direction on modern cars, older French cars such as the aforementioned 405, rode beautifully. Still have memories of a base model Renault 5 that rode lovely - and in a manner that would potentially embarress a lot of modern cars with their 50 inch alloy wheels and ultra sporty pack must visit silverstone on the way home sports suspension.

And not a fancy adaptive suspension set up with 1500 optional settings to help out.

Got the V70 through it's 3rd MOT for just over £200 yesterday, other than tyres (less than £200) that's all it's had this year I think, so £400 for a years relaxing, comfy heated seat barging. My colleague spends more than that every month on the loan for his quickly depreciating VW Scirocco that he frets about getting the slightest mark on.
My Dad reversed in to mine and my OH drove it in to another car and I'm like ..... never mind. I even tried to launch it over a roundabout in a momentary lapse of concentration and it only knocked the tracking out. Indestructible.

AS for the £800 MX5.......well, I'll wait until after the 1st MOT until I make a judgement on that. It could get messy. Anyone good at welding?

I paid £390 for my shed in June. HPI clear, MOT but no tax.

I missed the part about never cleaning it. I also missed the part about not spending out on it, but its my main car and I enjoy the mechanical side of things so it doesnt bother me at all. thumbup

an other old peugeot, I didn't buy it has a shed (I wouldn't call it a shed now, its still like a new car 32k), I've just owned it for a long time has its always been a good car (a peugeot that's never broken down). I've looked after and cared for it well. (old peugeots were great cars, new ones just make me feel a bit sad). But I still care for my car, and I do worry about it (dent's etc). Maybe it's due to not have much money growing up (or now), but I can't abuse machinery, no matter it age or how much it's worth.

So not really a shed, more long term ownership. (It's a bit of pity, its a very good car but worth sod all due to its age, but it's worth more to me personally than any money. Which some people who call themselves petrol heads on here don't seem to get.)
