I love performance cars but hate anything that really isn't a performance car. Whether it be a Mondeo, Vectra, Audi A4 TDi, BMW 320d or whatever it's just dull and uninspiring.
The RS range are very impressive (not as good as the classic when RS actually had a passion and was a collaboration with another top motorsport designer) and to me are performance cars so I love RS's but not Audi's just like I love M Cars and AMG cars.
It's possibly because I also hate AWD and think anyone who thinks a performance car needs AWD shouldn't be anywhere near high powered cars. But basically the RS is just a big engine stuffed into a criminally dull car. You're still never going to look back over your shoulder at it in a carpark. That's ok for a daily-driver that isn't being rammed down your throat by evangalists, but unfortunately Audi RSs do seem to attract a following of people who reckon themselves as car enthusiasts but are terrified of anything that needs any sort of ability to actually drive. The RS range are very impressive (not as good as the classic when RS actually had a passion and was a collaboration with another top motorsport designer) and to me are performance cars so I love RS's but not Audi's just like I love M Cars and AMG cars.

I don't think anyone in their right mind thinks that AWD is a prerequisite for a performance car. I totally disagree that this is dull. Drive one including the RS5 and they are far from dull. A mate has a modified C6 RS6 and it has set a benchmark for what a proper quick car is. They tend to understeer like mad in the dry but are fun in the wet and snowy conditions. The most fun I have had in a car is with the B5 and B7 RS4's in deep snow where you can learn how to drift properly. Agreed, the M5 has taught me to relearn everything I needed to know about a proper powerful RWD car that can easily get out of shape when extending the right big toe and I do think it has made me a better driver. I also looked back more at those two cars after parking than any others I've owned including the Elise which was pretty darn gorgeous.

Whilst this is a statement so stupid I'm not even going to bother spending any time ripping it to shreds because anyone with half a brain can see how stupid you are, Audi have carved themselves a decent little niche with fast AWD cars. I know a few people who are ex-BMW M car owners now in Audi S/RS. Not all of them moved to Audi for AWD, but at least one quoted the fact that he could get his Audi out of the street when his M3 was spinning it's wheels in the snow...AWD is just another drive train option. Much like FWD and RWD, it has pros and cons.

I always think the back of the A7 looks like you've just given it some sad news I always want to say cheer up chap it'll be ok
I do love the RS audi's though (apart from the RS5) and they do usually look pretty impressive in the flesh. I drove past a B7 RS4 the other day and I had forgotten how good those things look looked like a real beast
thats a sensor to tell the person who has it on the never never when they are exactly 1 foot from the back of the car in front,

Just spotted a pretty large mistake in their render. There are two headlight washers on the left, but only one on the right!
The extra might be a sensor for radar guided cruise control or something similar. jamieduff1981 said:

I have had five Audis, three Ferraris, two Astons, two Porsches and a C63 AMG (amongst others). Which ones should I be/was I terrified of? http://rjmghome.blogspot.co.uk/#!/2012/12/audi-qua...

Just read your blog mate, some nice stories on there. Sounds like you have mixed emotions about the AMG!http://rjmghome.blogspot.co.uk/#!/2012/12/audi-qua...

Maybe not terribly well put, but I think he has something of a point. Whilst not entirely pervasive (yet), there seems to be a formula for a 'performance car' these days that consists of putting a big power, usually turbocharged engine in a chassis that's inherently flawed, applying large amounts of computing power to keep it all under some semblance of control, and giving the driver lots of buttons / toys, and fearsome straight line capability. Let's face it it's not likely to be much of a track car is it? It's all about the numbers. There are legislative and economic reasons why this is so, but to me, that's pretty much the antithesis of being a piston head car.. The ability to reach very high speeds in .2 of a second faster than last years car is pretty irrelevant really, and pales rather quickly, hopefully faster than plod gets your license. Take a look at the Mike Cross / flow piece - to me, that's someone that gets it..
Of course everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but not for me.. even if I'm going the way of the dinosaur
