Pretty poor list, PH. Quite a few ommisions (Where's the Vantage V600/Le Mans for example)

Is it just a list of 'some Astons the author could be bothered to write about'?

It's listed under the Virage for some reason.

DB7 is lovely. Inclusion of a few more past and modern aston racing cars would have been nice smile

In my mind, the DB9 remains the most beautifully proportioned car ever. More so than the (GASP) E-type that everyone bangs on about. More so than an Elan and I look forward, with curious eyes, as to where AM goes from here...

To be fair to the author, Aston have only ever made one dud: the Cygnet (unlike many other car compnaies, who have closets full of skeletons). You can argue the case for almost any Aston with different criteria: in the late 70s/early 80s, the V8 Vantage had the power and the glory, but the Lagonda saved the company from recievership

I don't see the Cygnet as a dud, yes, its not desirable, but it is necessary, if it wasn't for that, we wouldn't have the new Vanquish, the new DB9, the V12 Vantage Roadster, One-77, and whatever else the future of Aston Martin holds, I, therefore, see the Cygnet as a fantastic car for that reason alone.

Happy birthday to Aston Martin though, thanks for this.

This and many, many others over the years, plenty of eye candy for the lot of us.

Do you have any sales figures to back that up? From what I gather it's been a complete failure.

Oh not based on Sales Figures my view point, but wasn't the reason for its creation to reduce the Average CO2 output across the Aston range by a considerable way, due to a new rule brought in by the EU?

Lamborghini and Ferrari never had to make a small car as they have Audi/VW and Fiat to rely on, where Aston, at the time, were privately owned.

That's just a load of bks spouted from Top Gear. Dr. Bez has confirmed that's nothing to do with why the Cygnet was made. Aston are a small volume manufacturer so get away with it.

I never quote Top Gear, this is what I heard around on a fair few sites, but if Dr Bez has said that, I accept its not the reason then.

To be fair, Aston don't make the Cygnet.

(ps. Does annoy me that the Vantage is lumped in with the Virage though nono )

In the last edition of CAR U Bez openly admits that the Cygnet indeed was a failure. They thought that city people would leave the big V12 in the garage and take the Cygnet for small runs locally but this trend has never materialised.

So the DB9 replaced the DB7 after nine years, does that mean there is a new Aston due this year?
Well, they brought out the new DB9 a few months ago, so they'll probably stick with that for a few years yet.

Although, to be fair, its easy to miss that its a different model if you're not a bit obsessed with Astons

The V8 Vantage Le Mans is still my all-time favourite Aston.

Followed closely by the DB5. And then the 2002 V12 Vanquish.

Part of me deeply desires a second-hand Cygnet. I remember thinking it was April Fools when they were released, but now I'm warming to the idea of a super-plush exclusive small car, Aston badge or not.

Because there's no point listing everything. It's not a list of the greatest it's just a list of a few cars and their effect on the company.
I would say the original Vanquish had a huge effect for the company. It was proper 'muscle' Aston in it's own right and not just a power upgrade version of a standard model. Just look at the lines, and hear that glorious noise. What a beautiful car it is. Ultimate Black Vanquish S for me please.

Have to say that the Vanquish in the red looks absolutely stunning. Folks that criticise it looking too much like the DB9 I think are way off the mark.

I agree about the new Vanquish. Was looking over one the other night and it's even better "in the metal" than the pictures. In any case, how can looking like the DB9 be a criticism? The MY 2013 DB9 looks fantastic.

There is now a plaque on the wall of No. 16 which is round the corner from the photo. David Richards unveiled it yesterday.
