Chaps need some urgent advice!

I'm buying a Nissan Cube (or at least am trying to), I've just done an HPI check and it all comes back ok apart from the Milage.....

Now, it was listed at 65,000, HPI check came back with 128,000 and I said "WTF!"

The seller has said that the Cube clocks in Km and on the MOT certificate it says 128,000km, so this equates to 80,000 miles.

So, he has mistakenly mis calculated the incorrect KM's into Miles, deliberate or not?

Everything else tallies up on the HPI check. I rang DVLA and they said milage logging isn't compulsery, so they couldn't help.

It could be legitimate, I hope it is because its the car I want, for the price I can afford!

why not ask for a picture of the odometer? Have you checked the MOT history online?

It's the seller's problem.

Don't make it your problem by buying it.

What does the service book say?

BTW 128,000 km is not 65,000 miles.

Walk away.

Doesn't seem like a huge problem in the scheme of things. In an ideal world the clocks would have been converted to miles when it was imported. Or failing that then at least at MOT time (and sale time, as these are times when miles are submitted to the national mileage register) the KM reading on the car should have been converted to miles in the operators head, and then entered.

It seems like all the records for the car are in KM, and the seller has falsely (deliberately or accidentally) advertised it at the wrong mileage.

I'd try a bit harder to understand it, rather than just walking, because it doesn't sound like a deal breaker so long as you're happy with it having covered the extra miles and the price reflects them.

A lot of our stuff comes from Canada and has KM speddos and odometers and we don't change them.

Car is advertised as having 65,000 miles, car has at least 80,000 miles on it. You buy it, it's your problem.

If I wanted to buy, I'd be asking myself "what else is seller lying about"?

Next week, should I expect a thread on PH titled "Bought a nissan cube which looked the part but is shagged" ?

Walk...away.

65,000 x2 is 130,000. If the MOT is reasonably recent, it could be that the car has covered about 130k by now, and the seller thought that you divide by two to get KM from Miles. Daft, yes. But also possible. Just look into it, find out what the actual current odometer reading is and then try to corroborate that by using the history. (i.e. the mileage from the MOT's online, and also the service book. If you have access to the V5 I think that might state the mileage when it was last sold, but I can't remember.)

Cheers guys, I checked the MOT history:-

2007 = 87km
2008 = 93km
2009 = 100km
2010 = 103miles
2011 = 115miles
2012 = 128miles

So unless he done 60k in 2010 I think its fair to assume its an input error. He says the latest MOT certifacte states 128,000km rather than 128,000 miles.

2009 to 2010 looks a bit low, but I bet there was a change of owner during that time. It would be consistent with sitting on a forecourt / passing through trade for a bit and therefore having lower miles. It would also be consistent with the new owner taking it to an MOT place who didn't observe the Units when entering the odometer reading to the computer. (The previous place entered them correctly as Km, and the new place has left the default Miles selected.) If you can have a look at the odometer itself you'll be able to verify the distance reportedly covered since the MOT.

Things like this will confuse the HPI report, and it's down to the guys in the MOT garage not selecting the correct units. IMO this isn't a reason not to buy the car.

You do still need to find out why the seller advertised it at 65k miles though, and I assume it's a calculation error.

Cheers!

Yup he's apologised for the error, and pointed out that its still good value, and to be honest he's right. Wish he hadn't of raised my sceptical sensors though, 80k for a 9 year car is still below average.
