RE: PH Blog: new year, new cars...
Discussion
don't like the 959, seen some and they gave me no attraction at all...athough they are ofcorse very special.
a good 205 Rallye with big dubble carbs etc could be fun though, I remember one or two back in the days I drove those...
also had a few Lancia Delta Integrale's those days, from the first type through the last model, but I would not buy one again although on the outside they look the bomb specially the Evo models.
I love some older cars too, looked at many in classifieds at many websites (to many ) once you start your late in bed...every time the same.
the last years I'm more concentrated around some in particular.
-- Older TVR's like Grantura's/Griffiths and Vixen's/Tuscan's but also M-series for original with V8 or converted to V8 and say from 300hp and modern suspension should be fun.
-- Older Lotus Europa especially the later models from 1972<>1975 those days (also from 1969 I believe) those Lotus Europa's were known as one of the best drivers cars in the days!
they were light and thanks to very good roadholding also fast in the corners.
thanks to their 'extreem' lightness 180 or so hp should be fun allready, let alone converted to Zetec engine and say 260 NA hp
-- 911 coupe 2.8 RSR good replica's or ST (light and fast and good looking)
-- 904 replica .....sadly very expensive, but very light and fast on track with a 3.6 engine.
ofcorse I have a few more on my long list, most important they have to give a good feeling and you must feel connected to the/a car.

Ooh interested by the B5 S4 comment!
Had one, and what a car!
Standard they are average to good, but not much tweaking and they become a serious weapon, go a bit further like I did, with different turbos, a decent suspension set up and it will eat most things. And still return 30mpg on a long sensible run.
And I challenge anyone to say turbos make engines sound worse after hearing one of theses with a decent exhaust system.

Otherwise I'd drop the MX5 in a heartbeat for a red 944 with pepperpot alloys and a very un-classy exhaust... sigh.
Do it!Cheap as chips Mr Dickenson would have you know. I bought a white 944 in September (was a childhood dream car), have driven it daily ever since. I don't know why everyone was complaining about the snow, i had great fun hanging it out on the way to work and back the last couple of days
If you're going Audi estate, how about the original RS2. Here's one from the PH classifieds:

...just out of interest, how have the man maths worked out on the 599?...don't expect figures but...up on the game? Down on the deal or break even?
Ps...IMO Get A M3 CSL...These are better than money in the bank at the moment..
Judging by the lack of mention of it, I think some wound licking is going on. As for the M3 CSL, they're a bit of a minefield, I've seen a couple of really abused examples, suppose it comes with the territory with the track oriented edition of any car though.Ps...IMO Get A M3 CSL...These are better than money in the bank at the moment..

V6 S4 Avant Turbo? Supercharged surely? Or RS4 Bi-turbo? Or did I miss one? God knows I bought enough of them...
The 3.0TDi was a good one if miles per gallon and torque are a priority, just don't make the mistake of putting a manual gearbox in it, I did.

Think this is the link!
It has a Quattro engine and an Intergrale transmission. What could possibly go wrong?
What in the name of sweet Jesus is that abomination ... BORK!http://svs-ltd.com/detail.php?TableID=SPC&Deta...

Please stop it. I really have a hankering for a dark grey 924S. No idea why - just seems a rational alternative to an FT 86. My mechanic has an old W124 convertible he is successfully talking me into as well. Cheap to buy yes... My problem is that I get most of my income from royalties. In car sized chunks... I've not given in for years. But - the kids are a bit older, and so am I.
I have a white 924S if you are interested with a new ticket and 5m tax.It really is too bad you can't hold on to the 599, I hope to have one someday. 512TR is my 2nd choice for a 12 cyl Ferrari...
Have you thought about a late 90's Continental T? It's also on my bucket list of cars. They look sinister and silly at the same time lol. If I can't quite swing the maintenance I'll settle on a Quattroporte GTS.

The narrow power band meant I was constantly changing gear. You'll know that it goes like a stuck rat from, what, 1500-3500 rpm, then goes all asthmatic and wheezy.
A number of times I rolled up to a traffic island in 3rd gear, put my foot down to take advantage of a gap and nothing happened. Cue embarrassment.
But driving along at 70 mph + 10% on a motorway getting 38 mpg was brilliant.
I had a DB7 and a Ferrari 550 at the time which at 70mph + 10% did about 12-14mpg.
I guess next too the high revving petrols its a big contrast, my other cars are turbo petrol with a similar power band at the other end of the rev range (3.5k to 6.5k) so am pretty used to changing gear. Recent trip across Europe avg speed 78 - avg mpg 36.5. Whilst an rs6 looks very tempting I think half the mpg might be painful, especially as the Tdi is quick enough 80% of the time
