Turning circle of an oil tanker; poor weight distribution; dubious handling; horrible driving position; not particularly fast; utterly impractical;... but I'd love one.
This ^^^^By all accounts, it actually isn't a very good car by most normal measurements but it's just bonkers which is why it appeals so much, such a shame Renault seem to have lost some of this madness lately.
Saying that, I'm not sure I'd pay £15k for one though, if I wanted an interesting hot hatch with a large engine in it, my money would probably go on a 147 GTA instead.
Well that's a coincidence. I've got a Clio v6 as one of the cars in my search criteria for the PH and Flux competition. Hopefully it's a sign
I do love the fact these cars got made despite the unlikely-ness of the entire project. They had quite a big influence on a young me when they came out, as it was just about the time I was starting to think about driving and getting my licence.
The whole max power look really appealed back then too Ahem, to redeem myself from that admission, these days I lust after a Clio v6 more for the handling (likened to an early 911), and the group B style body attenda.

I've no doubt this is a great car but £17k?!
Thats 3yr old Boxster S money!
Why is it on ph, no matter what car is being discussed or written about, someone always has to say, you could buy a Porsche (whatever model) for that money as if owning a Porsche is the epitome of all things motoring.Thats 3yr old Boxster S money!
The very fact this isnt a mass produced sports car from a German manufacturer makes it worth every penny of its price tag imho and in 10 years time when the market is awash with cheap Porsches Boxsters S's that arent selling, this will be probably 2 or 3 times the value is now!
Motoring where you dont loose any money, still have an absolute ball and probably get more attention than any hum drum Porsche, isnt that a novelty!!!

They're not as bad as people think and are still very capable. Obviously need a higher level of talent and concentration to get the best out of them.By all accounts, it actually isn't a very good car by most normal measurements but it's just bonkers which is why it appeals so much, such a shame Renault seem to have lost some of this madness lately.

TX.
What is this car called again ?TX.
Agree on the comparisons to Boxsters, there are around 300 of these on the roads, there are thousands of Boxsters, of course the Boxster is probably better but though its a nice car, it isnt special like these, you dont see one very often.
I dont however get the misty eyed biut about not seeing its likes again, its grandad was powered by what again, hmm, a small capacity turbocharged engine....
Very glad to have owned one but it wasn't the right car for me. The steering was vague at best, the driving position wasn't great, but the engine sounded great and the sense of occasion is second to none - everyone looks, everyone.
Very much a motoring oddity, and much respect must go to Renault for building it, the world would be a sadder place without cars like these

I think there are only 190 of these Phase 2 examples left in the Uk.
With prices in Europe between 20-30 thousand Euros a lot of the Uk cars are being bought and sent back to Europe.
Presumably as time passes the prices between here and there will equalize, or uk numbers will continue to drop.
Regarding the comparison with Boxsters, time will sort that argument out relatively quickly, I know which camp I'm in.

As a long-term Porsche enthusiast (love the marque, and its motorsports creations), and having owned a 986 Boxster S, and finally getting my first Clio V6 (Phase 2) in 2011 (I have two now), all I can say is that the Clio V6 has way more character than the Boxster (S), and they are much rarer (only 354 Phase 2's officially imported into the UK). The Clio V6 will certainly not lose value like a Boxster (S) does.
I was rather hooked on The V6's bonkers looks, and the whole philosophy and radical approach adopted during the design and build of this little car. I have the same admiration for the Alfa Romeo SZ, another one-off.
Servicing and maintenance is not that bad, with the 5-year cambelt service being the most expensive. However, any damage to the bodywork may result in a write off as original body panels are expensive.

While the MK1's handling was 'challenging' it was no more so than an older Porsche. It couldn't have been that bad once you sussed it out either since the V6 proved to be a shade faster at Bedford than the hottest Clio of the time when we back to backed them. The MK2 is altogether more resolved handling wise (but still needs full concentration on the limit) and is just plain better screwed together too adding to the feeling of more security. Both cars can be made to feel hugely improved simply by lowering the seating position which is ridiculously high as standard. BoxsterS??? Having owned a couple of I'd say they are so different that comparisons are pointless. Both versions now looking like safe places to put your money too.
