I think that looks great, the ol' Fiesta has certainly evolved an awful lot from that 1980's 1100 I had.
I do have an irrational desire for a 1980's Fiesta, specifically this one

Hang on a minute on the price front, Its hardly a performance bargain! I remember negotiating not a lot more than £14,000 for a Clio 200 with Cup packs, carbon trim and Recaro seats not very long ago at all. It unfortunately fell through due to personal circumstances but the point is I negotiated a perfect spec (in my mind) 200 Cup out of the showroom for a good 3k less than an ST is likely to cost once it is on the road.

AND

I bet it still doesn't drive as well as the Clio 200 Cup, or look as good.

Shame Renault is about to ruin the Clio RS completely, put the price up 10k ish from the aforementioned 14k and probably hand the 200 Cups place in the market to this ST.
So you managed to negotiate a good deal on a car about to go out of production, while comparing that to the list price of a brand new car and not checking out what discounts are available yet? Seems a fair comparison.

What does it matter if it's 10% down on power compared to the Clio if it's 10% lighter ? Which I am sure it will be.
It just means less emissions, better mpg and higher lateral grip.

I love how climate control back then was tinted glass and opening front quarterlights smile

Mk7 Fiesta Zetec S weighs 1091kg with the 1.0 eco-boost engine, so say roughly 1150kg with the bigger seats and turbo etc.

That makes 153bhp/tonne.

2011 Corsa VXR has 152bhp/tonne and the Clio 200 Cup has 166bhp/tonne. Fairly close power to weight so it should keep up with its "current" rivals, plus the extra torque over the NA Clio and that's all before the tuners get their hands on them. I'd put money on one putting out 250bhp within 6 months.

(Figures adjusted due to inaccurate weight values)

Love how £17k for a small car is now considered a bargain! Same has happened in the 600cc bike market - Near £10k.
New cars now cost more than ever, so in comparison it is a bargain. An M3 is now over £60k.

fking hell I thought it was a rip off. But then again I havent bought a car in years, they cost a fking fortune now.

£13k about 5 year ago you could pick up a new ST

I dont think its a patch (look wise on my Fiesta) and to be honest I dont see me trading in my shopping trolley any time soon for one. 150 bhp is all I need to go to asda and back.

Not sure on that front end. I don't hate it, but I think it could look a little better, perhaps it will grow on me though.

I seriously doubt its ever going to happen, but I still long for a RS Fiesta. With 4wd as well please Ford... (hey, if I'm going to dream I might as well go the whole hog!)

so inflation has pushed the price of a fiesta st up £1000 a year.

hmmmm........ I always thought it was all the needless st they put on poxy little cars like that nowadays (ESP ETC). All a car like that needs is a manual 5 box, a radio, fuel light and a steering wheel.

then again maybe im talking out my arse

Pity we aren't going to get the 5-door version, I think the 5-door edition of the current Fiesta is a nicer bodystyle than the 3-door - breaks the sides up a bit.

Mrs currently has a 5-door 1.4 titanium Fiesta on a 10-plate, would love to change it for a new fiesta ST but can't do without a 5-door!

Actually six years ago (Dec 2006) i purchased a Fiesta ST for £10300 brand new with zero miles and a Fiesta ST 500 in May 2008 again brand new with zero miles for just under £11k wink

You'll find this surprising.
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1...

It calculates how much £x in a given year is in today's money. For instance, my Mum bought a shiny new Ford Escort 1.3 "Cosmopolitan" in August 1988. I remember this very clearly because the list price was £8888. That's £19,600 in today's money, for an arthritic tinny 70-odd bhp hatchback with terrible seats, zero crash safety, fitness windows in the back, brakes that didn't really work and plastics so hard you could skin a knuckle on them.

And you're complaining about £16k for a Fiesta that's actually bigger, has electronics you wouldn't have got on an S-Class, is probably faster and handles better than contemporary Ferraris and uses probably half the fuel?

Well said!

Fed up with constant moaning on P'heads about any new car.

its a Fiesta, its only £16,995, it has 180 BHP and a shed full of torque for a small car...thats ample for a junior GTI. The new clio will be over 20 grand and probably not a whole lot faster, so I think Ford have done well with this.

Those prices are perfectly acceptable IMO and represent good value when compared to the competition. I could be tempted!

I love it! I had the last ST and it was a fantastic car with the chassis being more than up to the job. I bought it after doing an Autocar event at Prodrive and the adverse handling circuit did nothing adverse to the car.

From that I got a Works Mini before going back to a new shaped Fiesta Titanium Diesel- and this Fiesta was a great drive, especially as it only had 95bhp spongy suspension and small wheels. To get a Fiesta with the ST attributes would be brilliant!

Saying that though, I've now got my TTS so it isn't going to tempt me back for a third time just yet biggrin

I'd have been the first to say its expensive. Then I went to actually buy one and a car Alfa Romeo sell that would compare to the Zetec S fiesta is barely any cheaper than the ST, and we could easily afford one of those.

£17k sounds a lot when you think of paying for cars outright, but without wanting to open a debate about finance that price will make it accesible to a huge amount of people, more than I'd have realised a couple of months ago.

Kerb weight of the 1.0 Ecoboost is 1091kg, ~(Ford website)
Corsa VXR is 1223 kg (Parkers...not shown on the vauxhall site)
Previous Clio 200 cup is 1204kg (Evo again not on the Renault site)
My mistake, I just got them all off the autotrader website. Although I did think 1500+kg seemed like a lot! Either way the Fiesta should match the other two on power/weight.
