Ah yes... Definately the best button in the car. (though I have bypassed it and my exhaust it set to load all the time)

That's probably why this car doesn't appeal to me that much...
Odd when you've previously owned several convertibles - none of which could hold a candle to the Spyder in terms of driving pleasure...

See, that's part of the fun. I'm not sure about the whole hardcore drive-a-Caterfield-while-wearing-a-thermal-wetsuit-in-a-rainstorm mentality, but there's something really fun about a cold weather hoon with the lid open and the blowers on hot. You may get some odd looks but who cares? When it's sunny and hot you'll get wker signs and abuse anyway - you can't win so may as well just enjoy yourself and sod what the world thinks. laugh

^^^This

One of my best drives was in Feb over Snake Pass with snow on the ground but the roads were clear.

Heater, hat and gloves in the Feb sunshine and hardly any other cars were about - fantastic.

For those worried about the roof there is this hard-top apparently available:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

Think I prefer it with the soft-top fitted!

996 Turbo, 997 C4S, Corvette, Tuscan II (possibly V8 converted), Honda NSX, Ferrari 355, Ferrari 360, DB9, V8V, Supercharged Elise, etc.
996 Turbo - Too old and too costly to run, no long term warranty.

997 C4S - Was looking at these myself, 35k would get you a 2006 car with 40k miles from Porsche, though the extended warranty would run out in only three years.

Corvette - LHD American , need I go on.

Tuscan 2 - Cheap, very fast but no long term warranty and reliability issues would put me off.

Honda NSX - Looked at these also, too slow but well balanced and already a classic.

Ferrari 355 Spyder - Very little available for 35k, mainly LHD and unloved cars. High maintenance and no long term warranty.

Ferrari 360 Spyder - Nothing available for under 40k last time I looked.

DB9 Volante - Too heavy, a GT rather than a track focused car. Nothing good available under 40k.

V8V Roadster - As the DB9

Elise 220 - As track focused as the Spyder but not in the same league. I had a VX220 Turbo previosuly, loved it.

The Spyder really is a bargain if you are looking for a track focused car that you can still warrant, looks great, has outstanding built quality and is rare.

Nothing else compares. ;-)
Is the NSX that much slower than the Spyder - surely they are both 0-60 in ~5 secs and 170mph cars?

Loved these since I saw one on top gear, awesome looking bit of kit and its fair to say ill probably never own one, if I am ever in the position to buy one, I wouldn't because the cayman R looks a fair bit better?

Think those might be manufactuers figures. IIRC Autocar etc tended to get around 5 seconds to 60

"I would like a red one with silver wheels, but no such car is currently for sale."

There's a late, low mileage guards red car just popped up on Auto-trader Chris - might be worth a look:

Completely in love with the Spyder, test drove one recently and fell completely in love, by far the best handling car i have driven.

Currently trying to purchase one but with so few on the market this is no easy task.

Looking for a white, automatic spider with sports exhaust.
The rest is negotiable.

Just thought i'd resurrect this post as the prices of Spyder's seem to be on the rise, Im assuming because of the hype surrounding the impending arrival of the very lovely 981 Spyder

But is the exclusivity really worth £17k more than an S?

Porsche centres have had a couple on since August and have dropped them by around £3k in the last 2 weeks

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... really low mileage with 2 year Porsche £31k

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... £48k (was £47k last week) and probably has more than 80kgs worth of options

A one owner manual with 16k on the clock recently sold privately for £38 with 111 point clean bill of health from porsche

Had been looking to swap out my RS6 after 10 years for a 981S or a 2007 911 Turbo but the money isn't burning a hole in my pocket

Seems to be more for sale now than at any time in the last 5 years, so def a buyers market right now.
Prices seem static and have dropped from 12months ago, and they haven't yet reached their original selling price.

Wouldn't fancy paying more than low £40's for one now.

Ive only been aware of this model since July this year, which is a bit sad as I had considered myself a bit of a car nut irked

interesting comment ref the amount for sale it would seem that new ones are on the way and people are starting to off load

Also consider that as a general point: convertibles are seasonal and winter is coming. More supply and softer prices would normally be expected at this time of year...
