Why flat 6 power when RUF have built their own V8?
Custom V8 from RUF would hardly be cheap I doubt, sure would be alot cheaper to get the flat 6 albeit probably modified that laid in the back of a 911 turbo. It a nyet from me and i expect it to be a nyet from every single one of their prospective customers.

I caught this story last night on Flipboard. They are look to retail this at EUR 3.2m. The L.E.D. clusters have diamonds on them etc so i don't thing cost of particularly the engine would be a consideration. Why they stopped at a RUF sourced flat six is beyond me.

I love it when people start belching out stuff like "going to knock the establishment into a cocked hat" and other such hyperbole. The problem with it of course, is that the "establishment" has a massive head start. These small start ups always get distracted chasing a million BHP and 0-60 and all the EASY stuff to do. The real difficult stuff, the stuff that takes years and costs hundreds of millions of dollars is stuff like door closures, decent SatNav, HVAC that works, Ergonomics and packaging the drive and passengers properly. They also all start the wrong way around, they get some art/design student to sketch something amazing. Well, that ain't actually hard, but when you come to build it you either fall foul of the massive number of highly complex regulations that surround passenger cars, or simply cock-ups like the front wheel is where the drivers accelerator pedal foot needs to go.........Rearrange to form a well known phrase or saying.
Added to which, when you build five, well, there's very little pressure to actually do it properly and robustly, especially the build and assembly process. Ok, having a price tag of say £2M per car helps, but for 5of, that gives you just £10M to do all the development, marketing, building them and selling them. As a reference, someone like Mclaren will be spending approx £30M on just the infotainment system (something that tripped them up big time on the 12c ;-)

Any fool can make up some numbers and knock up a CGI rendering.
Making a Mule with an engine and swoopy bodywork is reletively simple but the finer points, making it all work together take years and millons of £.
As you point out, things like making the doors sound nice when you close them, having doors that seal and not leak get completely overlooked as people get distracted and start to believe their own BS and PR.
Even after you have done all that you still have to make the thing compliant with type approval and keep Thatcham happy or you just end up with an uninsurable, unregistered, very large door stop.

BAC Mono with a roof anyone?
How much?door catches
HVAC and demisting
Wipers
re test and approve all these things to ensure that all the radius are correct and that no one will get hurt if you hit them.
Test and approve door catches and hinges
if you have pillars you need to ensure that the field of view is sufficient etc.
Even small changes to an existing car opens a huge can of worms.

Apologies for the market speak, but to quote some tt in marketing, "What's it's USP?"- It looks like a bit like an R8 or a Lambo and doesn't seem to do anything different from the established marques. Presumably it'd be more expensive than an R8 or a Lambo (or possibly both added together) too?
I think it's USP is that it's not an R8 or a Lambo. Sometimes being different is all you need.Oz83 said:
