These are extremely realistic on price for a competent home mechanic, cam belts and full service rocked me under £200

As a previous owner, would be interesting to hear your take on running costs.

I am budgeting around £1500 a year to £2000 every 3rd year to cover servicing, insurance and running costs. As others have said there are some really good independents out there with great reputations offering fixed price servicing. For a Mondial it is at the lower end of the service costs, but yes a T is a bit more especially the belts every 3 years....hence the escalation then. In fact I did not think the quoted prices were much higher than the inspection 1 or 2 costs for my previous M3.

The T's were much evolved over the earlier cars, but most have had the "period" build related issues addressed by now. I do not have much experience of the earlier cars, but i have never seen an owner moaning or crying about them, just enthusiastic and happy. High mileage cars should not be worried about at this vintage, condition and maintenance records/proof are far more of a price indicator as that is what quells most prospective buyers concerns.

This was not a purchase by the head though, in fact the head really did not get much of a say. This was a heart lead choice and one I would recommend to anyone with petrol in their veins........you only like once, so live a little.smile

In the mid 1980's, the Chairman of my company had an identical blue mondial with creme interior when they were new. He used to have a fleet of cars in the company garage & would choose one each evening depending on his mood/weather(i recall a Range Rover, Merc 500, Bentley & the Mondial) - he used to leave them all unlocked with keys inside, so when he had left we used to sit in the Ferrari & fire it up to rev it & sounded great - I was 17 !!

It never covered many miles & when i left aged about 21 i was sorely tempted to buy it at a silly price around £10k i recall at around 5 years old. It was stolen once and later recovered but it did more miles that day than the remaining year.

Good choice the blue suits it well and design has improved with time - its no 355 I have since driven one but its more of an emotional purchase with some performance thrown in. It can only appreciate too.

There's something gloriously 'inverted snob' about these, along with the 400/412 and the 308GT4. I saw a GT4 at the Oldtimer GP a few years back in the Ferrari enclosure. Enzos with tanned 64 year old Germans with trophy wives, 360's with horrid blaring exhausts etc etc, but for me a metallic dark brown GT4 with red velour was The Man.

Agreed about not having a red one - it's just not right.

I really like Mondials and would love to have one. A couple of years ago a beautiful 1993 silver cabriolet came up for sale locally to me (unusual in both respects) and was gutted to be out of funds at the time.

This model is quickly becoming my next purchase.
I think for me it would be an early 3.2 in convertible guise....

We are on the second Mondial T, and that really speaks for itself, it really is a good car, the first one was the exact some configuration as the one posted here, Blue/Cream and I think it's the best one, we've a black/grey one now that also looks good though. We have a 328 GTS too and the Mondial gets driven much more because it simply is much better to drive, I don't know why are they so underrated. The Mondial T doesn't drive like the ferraris from the same era as quoted here and it's all better for that, the assisted steering makes the big difference here. Also if you want a Mondial opt for the Mondial T (best because of the steering) or the 3.2, the other can feel a bit slow. My V8 isn't very fast my modern standards but it isn't slow by any means, I've hit 280kph in mine and it does 0-100kph in a bit more than 6 seconds. For last, don't think for a moment that the mondial handles like a boat just because it is a 2+2, I had a 456M GT and yes, that handles like a boat and strangely much worse than the older Mondial T which feels very light and nimble.

Pros : Usable sports car and that really handles like a sports car or big go-kart, lovely steering (best assisted steering I tried, full of feedback), pointy front end, very fast turn in like a modern sports car, carries four, cheap, Ferrari V8 and classic H clank-clank gearbox.

Cons : Low quality interior, era new electronics can cause some problems.

I considered buying a late Mondial if you need a 2+2 and want a manual V8 there really aren't that many cars to choose from below £20k.

In the end I went for my RX7 mostly on the basis that I'm not scared to park at the builders merchants nor put a few bags of cement in it (if I can't use it for everyday stuff it simply doesn't get used at all) and I don't have a usable garage at the minute.

I really, really enjoyed that video! Some lovely cars, loving the flames from the 911, your Ferrari sounds lovely and the commentary really made me smile.

I can appreciate these, I think as it has a bit of a "cheap Ferrari" (as near as they get) thing which is kind of the role the 944 plays in Porsche world.

Aside from the little fact that a 944 has an engine which sounds like a bag of spanners being dropped repeatedly on the floor while this one moans like Kerry Ketona after 2 skidmarks of coke.

so in other words, no different than a 944 Turbo or TVR Chimera then.

I spent £2,200 on my 944 Turbo in the second year of ownership and I spent £2,000 to turn my 968 from a shiny garage queen into an everyday usable car, and I have just spent £1500 on 4 new tyres and new disks and pads at both ends of my XK8 (Brakes were half the price of my Wife's 5 series..)

Food for thought....
