I wonder why people care so much.

If you are a bloke and you like the 500 yes, if you are a bloke who doesn't like the 500 no.

Drive it, it's fine. My gf has just bought a MINI, and, although it's a "woman's car" I can appreciate the little touches in and on it, and wouldn't mind driving it. It is actually nicer inside than my Passat, which by contrast is a shed. I wouldn't buy one, purely because I like owning larger cars, and my miles generally consist of laid back cruising.

I wouldn't worry about driving a 500, I can see the appeal. People who deride cars like this generally have a "complex". If you're anything like me, you'll actually enjoy having something small and nimble to throw around. thumbup

Judging by the number of times this keeps coming up there must be a lot of blokes on PH with very, very small penises.
Or a lot of blokes who actually care about their image? It's got nothing to do with dick size or feeling comfortable with one's sexuality.

A Fiat 500 is a fashion item, plain and simple. It's no different to a bloke coming onto a forum and canvassing opinions on whether he would feel masculine wearing this fetching outfit or not?

I once had a Fiat Supamirafiori as a company car.

The company bought it over here and shipped it to me on the Isle of Man.

I went to the ferry to collect it and it was Lacquer Red - pink to you and me!

The FD had ordered it in that colour as a joke!

Yes, it's not a "man's car", but neither should one get in a tizz about driving it.

Other than in an Abarth version, can the Fiat 500 ever be driven by a bloke and not look like Louie Spencer driving to a gay rights parade???

The missus wants to get one and from time to time now I find myself driving her car when she needs my A6 for horse duties. I like what the 500 stands for but cant get my head around driving one!! Someone please show me the light.............
Ha I have A6 Avant and missus has 500!
I find it great for little runs. Its just refreshing driving something different. Its not going to win any races but I love driving it even though its a bit of a squeeze. I do feel like Im sat on top of it as opposed to in it though! Ive never noticed any negative reaction, but I am incredibly powerfully built.... biggrin

I sometimes drive a Smart ForTwo which is not well known as a Steve McQueen car. Have driven the 500 (a step up) over long distances, especially in Italy, and suffered no massive testosterone loss.

All the people saying 'who cares what other people think' also wear their wifes/GF's underwear. And on special occasions, their clothes too.

Just sayin.

I reaaaaally don't think it matters. It is just a car.

what does matter is that it is horrible to drive. (IMWO of course)

My lady has a black 'sport' with the 95hp diesel.

Of course. The key is to sticker it all up like it belongs to a young girl. That way all other road users will just assume it doesn't belong to the bloke but his daughter/sister/girlfriend.

How dare you!

I'll have you know as a powerfully built director I have a cute young assistant who lets me wear her underwear, the wife's smalls would never suffice when attending the 500 owners club.

I remember an article a year or three ago where some guys flew out to Milan or Turin, hired a few 500s and spent the weekend thrashing them sill around the Alps. Can't see anything massively emasculating in that!

I guess some people are comfortable within themselves while others are still a bit unsure...

They do rub a bit though

I agree, each to our own and all that, but I often find the people who keep saying "I don't care what anyone else thinks", often do. There's nothing wrong with caring about your public perception, imo, whether you be, gay, straight or celibate.

My ex has a Fiat 500, in that common Magnolia with Magnolia interior flavour. Before that she had a Polo GTI (1.8T), before that a Rover 25 and before that a Micra, so a succession of what might be classed as 'girly' cars. Happy to drive all of them on my own except the 500. It's a step too far in the girly direction for me.

Also, if you add one that says 'powered by fairy dust', then the car will drive itself and you can look for your makeup keep out of sight in the passenger footwell.

I used to drive our old school versions, I assumed everyone thought I was eccentric, to be fair, as a car it took more of a bloke to drive it than modern, butch looking cars, no servo, no PAS, no ESP, no Air Con, no Brakes, no power, challenging handling and needed proper man skills to keep it going, I didnt mind if people got a laugh out of sixteen stone and six foot of me geting out of it, if it wasnt "cool" I dont care.

As to the modern one, I would drive that in preference to some of the aboninable SUV's you see cruising round, we nearly boiught one but got a C1 instead as the insurance is cheaper for our offspring, I think they look great either bog stock on steelies or with some alloys, in red, with a white stripe.

Is it the engine you don't like, or just in general? We hired a 1.4 sport in Lanzarote last year, and I thought it was a cracking little car.

One of the managers in my work had a Purple 500C Twinair.

It was great fun driving it with the roof down!
